Yes, it’s true, you can now create a custom figurine of yourself when you Funko Pop yourself. Unlike other toy brands that have a wide variety of hair, skin, and eye color combos to match shoppers (think Our Generation dolls), these are fully personalized.

The process is similar to that of creating your own American Girl doll, but the key difference is the price tag. A custom American Girl doll will run you upwards of $200, but you can order the iconic statuette to look like you or your loved ones for just $30.

If that price wasn’t great already, I’ve got some tips to help you save money on Funko Pops. As a pop culture fanatic and huge cheapskate, I’ll teach you how to get the best deals, highlight top promotions, and show you how to Funko Pop yourself.

What are Funko Pops?

Funko Pop figures have been making a splash in the pop culture junkie and super fan communities for years now. If you’ve ever seen those bobblehead-like figurines with comically large square heads and solid-colored eyes, you know what I’m talking about. It feels like you can’t go to a convention or hobby shop without seeing the little figurines everywhere. But why are they so popular?

Cartoonishly cute looks aside, the brand has partnered with some of the biggest names in entertainment. For example, they have partnerships with Disney, Barbie, and Marvel, just to name a few. You can find Funkos of your favorite TV shows, films, comics, animes, and even real-life celebrities. It doesn’t matter what fandoms you’re a part of, there’s a Funko of it.

And if you’re into collecting, it’s relatively easy to find the figures. They’re usually in stock at places like GameStop, Barnes and Noble, Target, Amazon, and local comic and hobby shops.

How Do You Funko Pop Yourself?

It’s a pretty simple process. Head to Funko.com/funko-pop-yourself and choose the features you want. There are four skin color options, two body types (one that’s more slim and one that’s more muscular), and one eye color at the time of publication.

From there, you can select from a number of hairstyles and colors, including different hair textures, and facial hair. Choose from multiple clothing options ranging from casual to superhero to even a cap and gown.

Lastly, you can add an accessory to reflect your interests. (I chose an ice cream cone because there are few things in this world as delightful as a tub of Ben & Jerry’s, but there are tons of other items like instruments, plants, and bags too.)

And, for an extra $4 each, you can add a buddy to your order. There are 16 different buddies to pick from, including five cats and 11 dogs. There’s a limit of two buddies per order.

Here’s How to Save on Funko Pops!

1. Take 10% off when you sign up for their newsletter.

If you’ve never ordered from the Funko website, this one’s for you! New customers can get a 10% discount by joining the mailing list. Simply enter your email when prompted, confirm your subscription, get that sweet discount code, and then unsubscribe (if you want). And you can use the discount on your personalized Funko!

2. Get a free gift when you spend $65 or more.

If you spend more than $65 (before tax) you can pick a free gift. The promo runs through Aug. 30, 2023, or while supplies last. When you head to checkout, you’ll be prompted to choose one of three goodies if the items in your cart are eligible. Currently, you can choose between Pop! Sinestro, Pop! Masked Soldier, or Pop! Anna (Gold) with Pin. All are being sold for $15 normally. While the offer can’t be combined with other discounts, a custom Funko will count towards the minimum purchase amount.

3. Enjoy free shipping on your order.

Shoppers in the continental U.S. can get free shipping for qualifying purchases — really just any order with a subtotal of more than $65 is eligible. Just note that subtotal refers to the purchase amount before tax is added. As with the previous promo, a custom Funko will count towards that $65 subtotal.

4. Shop the sale section.

Did you know Funko regularly offers items on sale for as much as 60% off? If you want to save big bucks, check out their sale and clearance selection. You’ll find out-of-season items like Valentine’s and Christmas collections in August, as well as discontinued goodies. (For example, the figure of Kyrie Irving in a Brooklyn Nets jersey went on sale after he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.)

How does Funko Pop Yourself Compare to Other Custom Figures?

Assuming you don’t add a pet to your Funko Pop Yourself, the whole thing only costs $30. That’s $190 less than a custom American Girl doll.

You can also peruse Etsy for custom figures. The cheapest option I could find starts at $14.50, though there’s a marked difference in detail between one of these and a more expensive figurine. Products with comparable detail and craftsmanship to a Funko will likely cost between $50 – $80. That’s way more than the Funko Pop Yourself, but at least you can support an independent artist!
