1. Our Generation makes four kinds of 18″ dolls.

Our Generation makes four different types of dolls:

  1. Deluxe Dolls (reg. $34.99) include one full outfit with shoes, and a more robust selection of accessories. Take Macy, who works at a food truck and comes with an apron, hat, and accessories related to her gig (tacos, salsa, a notepad for taking orders, and so on).
  2. Regular Dolls (reg. $29.99) include one full outfit with shoes. A few of the dolls— like Diandrea, the film director — come with accessories. Diandra comes with a camera, view finder, and script book.
  3. Specialty Dolls (reg. $29.99) come with items or an outfit related to their schtick. Hattie the marine biologist, for example, comes with a specialized wetsuit, air tank, fins, a mask, and a diving light.
  4. Retro Dolls (reg. $24.99) come with an historically accurate, charmingly-retro look. Cecee, for example, wears a poodle skirt, top, purse, and shoes.

2. Get 5% off an Our Generation doll with your Target RedCard.

Target is the official seller of Our Generation dolls. You can’t even buy them on Our Generation’s website; it’ll just redirect you to Target. Which is great news, because if you’re a RedCard holder (and you should be), you’ll get 5% off your total purchase. That’s about $1.70 off of a Deluxe Our Generation doll, $1.50 off of a Regular or Specialty doll, and $1.25 off of a Retro doll. Boom.

Target offers incentives for signing up for RedCard throughout the year. Wait for one, like the $40 gift card or $25 off and $25 Target coupon offers. Find a Target near you.

PRO TIP: Look for Target coupons on the Krazy Coupon Lady website.

4. Buy all of your 18″ doll accessories at Target because their prices won’t be beat.

Target is where it’s at when it comes to buying accessories for any 18″ doll. Our Generation houses, cars, and other sets and themed collections are far lower than any competitors’. American Girl, a far pricier competitor that also makes 18″ dolls and accessories, can’t hold a candle to Our Generation.

For example, Our Generation Appaloosa Trail Riding Horse (reg. $34.99) comes with a saddle and five cute accessories. The American Girl Western Horse by American Girl (reg. $75) comes with… literally nothing. No saddle, accessories, nuthin’.

And, Target still beats its competitors for OG accessories. As of March 2020 the Our Generation Appaloosa Trail Riding Horse (reg. 34.99 at Target) was selling for :

PRO TIP: Target will price match Amazon, Walmart, and other competitors. So, if you ever do find cheaper prices, let a sales associate know and they can help you get that price point AND you can still use your RedCard on top of that!

5. You can — and should — look for used 18-inch doll outfits and accessories.

American girl clothing

Our Generation dolls are the same height and size as American Girl dolls, so their outfits and accessories are basically interchangeable. Because of American Girl doll outfits’ high price-point, there are loads of online communities, forums, and marketplaces for those looking for discounted or used American Girl items.

Facebook groups, Girl AGain, Facebook Marketplace, and eBay are all great resources for used American Girl doll clothing.

6. Buy off-brand doll outfits in bulk on Amazon for less than $2.50 each.

Amazon prime boxes.

If you’re open to buying off-brand, you’ll get more bang for your buck from Amazon and tons of cute handmade options on Etsy.

One example is this set of 10 outfits for 18-inch dolls for just $23.99 on Amazon (as of March 2020; prices vary). The set includes one mermaid outfit, several dresses, and a few dancer looks.

If you have one of the Our Generation boy dolls, which don’t have many clothing options (sigh), there are also many Etsy designers that will custom make doll outfits for you.

7. Or you can make your own 18″ doll outfits.

Check this out: If you don’t mind doing a little DIY, you can download millions of FREE 18″ doll clothing patterns on Pixie Faire. Look for kits and fabric from Michaels, JOANN, or even Etsy. You can save a ton and even do these projects with your child!

8. Sign up for the free Our Generation newsletter.

9. Don’t put an Our Generation doll in the bathtub. Ever.

How does this save you money? Because if you take care of an OG doll properly, you won’t have to buy a new one for your child after she exits the bathtub with a dripping 18″ mess. Not that I know anything about that….

To make the most of your doll — including her hair, outfits, and accessories — make sure you follow Our Generation’s care instructions properly, like spot cleaning and not putting a doll in the bath. This could be the difference between a doll that looks beautiful forever, or one that looks like it stuck its finger in a light socket.
