When you’re a student, you need all the savings you can get your hands on. Between tuition, textbooks, and things like — oh, I dunno — food and basic nourishment? College life is expensive.

Just because you’re a little bit broke doesn’t mean you can’t sport some sweet kicks, though. By being a smart shopper, you can afford even brand names despite the fact that you’re not swimming in cash. If you’re a student, the best place to start your hunt is student discounts, like the one offered by Converse.

Let’s take a look at the fine print on this student discount program so you can decide if it’s one worth using or not.

Make sure to download the KCL app so you can keep on top of any Converse sales that might be running. The student discount is great, but if the sale saves you more than 10%, you’ll want to claim that instead.

The Converse student discount is 10% off.

Converse used to offer a 15% discount to students, but as of December 2022 the discount is just 10%. Not as good as it used to be, but still not a bad deal!

You can qualify for the Converse student discount even if you’re in high school.

High School Student

You don’t have to be a college student to qualify for the Converse student discount. I mean, you can totally qualify as a college student with an .edu email address.

But the discount is also open to some high school students. As long as you’re age 16 or older and enrolled in school, you can qualify for this discount even if you haven’t yet made it to post-secondary.

You can claim the Converse student discount online through SheerID.

Person on Sheer ID

The Converse student discount is available online. To verify your student status, Converse uses a third-party service called SheerID.

Typically, you just need to provide SheerID with your school’s name, your name, your email address, and your date of birth. Every once in a while, SheerID requires a little more information to verify your student status.

If they do, you’ll need a document that includes your name and your school’s name. It’s gotta be current — make sure there’s a recent date printed on it so SheerID knows it’s not an outdated piece of paper.

Some examples of acceptable documentation include your:

  • Class schedule
  • Transcript
  • Tuition receipt

Here are the exclusions to the Converse student discount.

Person Wearing the Run Star Hike Platform Converse Shoe

You can’t claim the Converse student discount on just anything, which is a bit of a bummer. Bear in mind that your 10% off won’t apply to any of these products:

  • Converse Limited Editions
  • Converse By You
  • NBA-licensed products
  • Custom sneakers
  • Converse gift cards

As an example, these platform Converses would qualify for the Converse student discount, but these platform Converse boots wouldn’t.

TIP: Wanna turn your shoe obsession into a side hustle? Look into reselling sneakers.

You can’t stack the student discount with other deals.

You can’t stack the Converse discount with any other discounts or promotions. So you either have to put those promo codes away or forgo your student discount.

If the other deal would save you more than 10%, take the deal over the student discount.

If it’s less than 10%, it’s not worth it. Just take the student discount instead.

Here’s how to get free shipping on your Converse order.

Because the Converse student discount is online, you’ve gotta factor in shipping costs. If you’re getting $50 or less of product, the shipping costs will knock out all of your savings.

That’s because shipping on orders of $50 or less costs $8. With a student discount of 10%, you’d be saving no more than $5. So shipping costs will actually add at least $3 to the purchase price at the end of the day.

There are two ways to play the system and get free 3- to 5-day shipping:

  • Place an order of $50+.
  • Register for an account at Converse.com. That way you won’t pay for shipping regardless of your order size.

If you want faster shipping, you’re going to have to pay for it. Regardless of whether you’re a registered user or not.

TIP: Even though you can’t use the student discount on gift cards, you won’t have to pay for shipping if you’re only getting a gift card.

The Nike student discount is the same as the Converse student discount.

Nike and Converse box

Nike owns Converse, so you might be wondering if they offer the same deal.

The answer is a resounding “Yes.” In fact, the Nike student discount was lowered from 15% to 10% at the same time as the Converse student discount, and both programs use SheerID to verify your identity.

TIP: There’s also a Nike military discount that applies at both Nike and Converse stores. This discount can be claimed in person or online.
