Be sure to check out the Dairy Queen seasonal Blizzards — like the current summer Blizzards — for seasonal add-ins you may want in your secret menu creation. And also remember to tip the staff — some of these concoctions are cumbersome to make.

Best Secret Menu Items at Dairy Queen

So here's how to get all the Dairy Queen Blizzard flavors not on the menu. We've included an ingredient list for each Dairy Queen secret menu item as well as price estimates. The prices listed are from a Dairy Queen local to one of our writers in Texas.

Prices and ingredient availability vary by location.

Individual Dairy Queen Cupcakes

dairy-queen-dq-cupcakes-ice-cream-kcl-18

This is one Dairy Queen secret menu item you won’t want to miss. A Dairy Queen cupcake is an individually-sized or single-serve portion of a regular DQ Cake. So instead of paying $29.99+ for a full cake, you'll get a single serving for a fraction of the price.

Here's what's in it.

  • Chocolate soft serve

  • Cold fudge

  • Cake crunch

  • Vanilla soft serve

Cupcakes are not usually listed on the menu, but they tend to cost anywhere between $3.29 and $5.29 depending on location. Just ask for a ‘cupcake in a cup’ when you order or order through the DQ cakes section on the website. Not all stores carry them, but many do.

Banana Split Blizzard

Okay, so the Banana Split Blizzard isn’t technically a secret menu item. You can order it straight off the regular menu at some locations.

If you don’t see the Banana Split Blizzard on the menu, you can order one by asking for a vanilla Blizzard with:

  • Bananas

  • Strawberries

  • Pineapples

  • Chocolate syrup

Here’s what you can expect in terms of price for a banana split Blizzard. It all hinges on which size you order:

  • Mini: $7.75

  • Small: $8.55

  • Medium: $9.45

  • Large: $10.15

TIP: If the prices look too steep, consider splitting a large Blizzard between two people. You'll get 10.5 ounces of ice cream each (21 ounces total). For the Banana Split Blizzard, each person pays $5.08 — less than you'd pay for the 6-ounce mini size.

Turtle Sundae

dairy-queen-dq-menu-secret-menu-turtle-sundae-kcl-1

You know there’s such a thing as a Turtle Blizzard, but did you know you can order a turtle sundae, too? It’s a secret menu item. Just ask for:

  • Hot fudge sundae

  • Add caramel

  • Add pecans

  • Add whip cream with a cherry on top

Your price should come out somewhere around these numbers:

  • Small: $3.49

  • Medium: $3.79

  • Large: $4.29

Peanut Butter and Jelly Shake

To unlock the peanut butter and jelly shake from the secret menu, just order a peanut butter shake and ask them to add strawberry topping.

Some stores may just charge you the normal price for a shake, while others may charge you an additional fifty to seventy cents for the strawberry add-on. Generally, you can expect to spend somewhere between $4.75 and $5.30.

Butterbeer Blizzard

A fan-fav flavor, but in Blizzard form. Here’s how to order one:

  • Vanilla Blizzard.

  • Butterscotch syrup.

  • Vanilla syrup.

  • Butterfinger add-in

Then, to top it off, ask for extra whipped cream. Whether or not you get charged for the syrup additions or not is going to vary by restaurant location. But you will have to pay for the Butterfingers add-on everywhere. So expect to pay a minimum of:

  • $4.29 for a mini

  • $5.09 for a small

  • $5.79 for a medium

  • $6.59 for a large

S’mores Blizzard

dairy-queen-dq-secret-menu-blizzard-smore-kcl-3

Ice cream + s’mores? Sign me up ASAP. Here’s how to order one:

  • Vanilla Blizzard

  • Chocolate fudge

  • Marshmallow

  • Graham cracker add-in

A S’mores Blizzard will cost you anywhere between about $4.59 for a mini and $7.29 for a large.

At some restaurants, you’ll see this make an appearance on the regular menu during summer months, but for those with secret menu savvy, it can be ordered anytime whether it’s July or December.

Tiramisu Blizzard

Yes, the Dairy Queen secret menu can get fancy. This imitation Tiramisu Blizzard is pretty spot on when it comes to flavor.

Here are all the ingredients you’ll need to ask for:

  • Vanilla Blizzard

  • Pie chips add-in

  • Cheesecake pieces add-in

  • Coffee syrup

  • Fudge

Now, that is a fair number of add-ons, so while this treat is heavenly, you will need to pay a little extra for it. Assuming you don’t get charged for the syrup, here’s what you might pay for each size:

  • Mini: $5.29

  • Small: $6.09

  • Medium: $6.79

  • Large: $7.59

Fourth of July Misty Float

dairy-queen-dq-secret-menu-4th-of-july-misty-float-kcl-2

You can get all patriotic any day of the year with the Fourth of July Misty Float. Just ask for a vanilla soft serve in a cup with blue raspberry Misty Slush poured on one side, and cherry Misty Slush poured on the other.

Now, for this item, you’ll want to go during DQ Happy Hour to get the best price. That happens on weekdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and will lower the price of your ice cream and Misty Slush add-on by 50%. It will likely come out somewhere between $2.34 for a small and $2.84 for a large if you time your Dairy Queen run right.

Copycat Shamrock Shake

Yes, the Shamrock Shake is only really marketed in March at McDonald's, but it’s actually a cinch to order anytime off the DQ secret menu. Just ask for a vanilla shake with mint syrup mixed in, and you’ll be set.

Shakes typically cost around $3.29 to $4.79 depending on size. But if you go during Happy Hour? Those prices will be knocked down to about $1.65 to $2.40.

Samoa Blizzard

Yes, this is a reference to the ultimate Girl Scout cookie. Here’s how to get the taste with a custom secret menu order:

  • Vanilla Blizzard

  • Fudge

  • Caramel syrup

  • Chocolate cone dip

  • Nilla wafers add-in

  • Coconut add-in

Not all DQs will have these ingredients all the time. But when they do? Bliss. The joy will cost you, though. Just like a box of Girl Scout cookies, these suckers aren’t cheap. After add-ons the lowest you could realistically hope to pay would be $5.59 for a mini and $7.89 for a large.

Birthday Cake Blizzard

The secret to getting your Blizzard to taste like a b-day treat is LOTS of vanilla:

  • Vanilla Blizzard

  • Vanilla syrup

  • Cookie dough add-in

  • Rainbow sprinkles

The Birthday Cake Blizzard should be pretty cheap for a custom secret menu Blizzard. Here’s what you might expect to pay by size, depending on store location:

  • Mini: $4.29

  • Small: $5.09

  • Medium: $5.79

  • Large: $6.59

TIP: Sometimes DQ carries this item on the real menu. But it usually only runs for one month, when it runs at all. The rest of the year you can still easily order it – it just becomes a secret menu item and therefore a little more expensive as you’ll have to pay for the add-ons.

Best Discontinued DQ Flavors You Can Still Order

Just because an item’s been retired for years – or even decades – doesn’t mean you can’t still order it at DQ. You’ve just gotta have that secret menu ordering strategy.

Jack & Jill Sundae

Back in the '60s and '70s, the Jack & Jill sundae was Dairy Queen’s equivalent of the modern day Blizzard. It was THAT popular. It’s not on the menu in 2024, but it’s super easy to order. Just ask for a vanilla sundae with chocolate fudge on one side of the cup and marshmallow on the other.

Typically, you’re not going to pay extra for the toppings. While prices can vary from location to location, you can usually expect to spend somewhere around:

  • Small: $2.69

  • Medium: $2.99

  • Large: $3.49

Some locations might charge you an extra $0.30 to $0.50 for the marshmallow topping.

Dixie Belle Sundae

Wanna reach even further back in time? In the 1950s, Dairy Queen introduced the Dixie Bell sundae. Here’s how to order it:

  • Hot fudge sundae

  • Add butterscotch

  • Add pecans

Again, Dairy Queens are independently owned, so prices will vary, but here’s a rough estimate of what this retro treat will cost you:

  • Small: $3.19

  • Medium: $3.49

  • Large: $3.99

Peanut Butter Bash

dairy-queen-dq-secret-menu-peanut-butter-bash-kcl-2

If you’ve got a particularly patient DQ worker on your hands, you might be able to convince them to make you a Peanut Butter Bash. This sundae was discontinued in the middle of the 2010s, but your Dairy Queen should have all the ingredients on hand:

  • Vanilla sundae

  • Hot fudge and peanut butter sauce in the bottom of the cup

  • More hot fudge and peanut butter sauce to the top of the ice cream

  • Chocolate chunks

Here’s an approximation of what you can expect to pay to revive this discontinued treat:

  • Small: $4.77

  • Medium: $5.07

  • Large: $5.87

It’s shameful that this one ever got taken off the regular menu! Luckily, you can still order a Cookie Jar Blizzard off the secret menu – you just have to know which add-ons to ask for:

  • Vanilla Blizzard

  • Cookie dough add-in

  • Oreo add-in

  • Hot fudge

The add-ons will cost you $0.30 to $0.70 depending on location, which means at the least it’s likely to cost you $4.89 for a mini, and at most you’re probably going to pay somewhere around $8.39 for a large.

How to Order From the Secret Menu

dairy-queen-dc-food-menu-deals-kcl-1

Don’t drive up to the window and ask for the ‘secret menu.’ That’s not a real thing – it’s just a reference to ordering hacks you can use to get stuff that’s not on the menu. Instead, place a custom order with all the add-ons in the item’s recipe.

Secret Menu FAQ

dairy-queen-dc-food-menu-deals-kcl-store

Can you add things to Blizzards? (What can you add to a blizzard?)

Yes, you can add things to all Blizzards. Here’s just a short selection of Blizzard add-ons:

  • Oreo

  • Butterfinger

  • Cheesecake bites

  • Choco chunks

  • M&Ms

  • Pecans

  • Chocolate chip cookie dough

  • Reese’s

  • Heath

  • Peanuts

  • Marshmallow

  • Fudge

  • Nilla wafers

  • Graham crackers

  • Pie chips

There’s almost assuredly more at your local Dairy Queen location, too. There are rotating seasonal menu items, promotional menu items, etc. And they each come with their own special ingredients, which you can use as intended or in a custom secret menu order.

Are secret menu items more expensive than classic menu items?

Most of the time, yes. When you order a classic menu item, you’re usually paying a flat rate with everything included. Then, if you add items on – like you would be doing with your secret menu order – you’ll pay for each add-on. Which items you have to pay for and how much they cost varies by location, but usually when there’s a charge it’s somewhere between 30 and 70 cents.

Are secret menu items available at all Dairy Queen locations?

It definitely depends on the item. Some secret menu items, like the Jack & Jill sundae, Peanut Butter Bash and PB&J shake can be ordered anywhere. That’s because they include ingredients that are generally on hand at all restaurants.

Other items, like the Banana Split Blizzard, might not be sold everywhere if they don’t have the right fresh ingredients on hand.

Still other secret menu items like the ice cream cupcakes simply aren’t sold at some locations — even if the restaurant makes the full size cakes. It's always best to call ahead if you want to confirm they can make your treat.

Should I order secret menu items on the app or in person?

It’s way easier to order secret menu items in person. That’s because there’s almost always more choices in terms of syrups and add-ons than are listed online.

You’ll be able to customize your order easier, and you’re more likely to get the lowest price when you’re interacting with a person instead of an automated system. The cashier might know some store-specific ordering hacks to help you out in terms of savings.
