My family has been attending the LEGO Store Monthly Builds since 2009! At these free events, kids get to put their LEGO-building skills to the test—and have some fun in the process. Besides keeping us entertained throughout the summer, the LEGO Store Monthly Builds also encourages the entire family to work together to create some pretty awesome LEGO masterpieces!

When to attend

LEGO Store Monthly Builds are held on the first Tuesday of every month. At the next event, which is on August 5th at 5:00 PM, you'll learn how to build a LEGO Monkey. Check here to find out the date and time of the latest LEGO Monthly Build program.

Who can participate

The LEGO Store Monthly Builds are designed for children who are 6 through 14, but my local store has always let my kids participate no matter their age—assuming a parent is there to supervise, of course.

How you can join

You don't have to pre-register for the Lego Store Monthly Builds—just show up on the specified date! Just a word of caution: these events tend to get crowded, and quantities are limited, so be sure to show up early to score a prime spot.

What you can expect

Every month you can expect to build a new LEGO model. In the past my kids have created models like a watering can, a lighthouse, a shark, a graduate and a hockey player. The fun doesn't end just because summer break does! As fall and winter approach, you can expect seasonal models like snowmen, vampires, turkeys and fireplaces. And one of the best parts of the program: kids get to take their LEGO creations home for free!

If you can't make it

Don't be discouraged if there’s no LEGO store close to you. The instructions for each project are always posted online here. You can use LEGO bricks that your family already owns or order the LEGO pieces you need here.
