Amazon drivers are notoriously overworked, especially during the holiday season. And for the third year, Amazon has brought back its Thank My Driver gratitude program. It allows those with Alexa-enabled device or the Amazon app to say, “Alexa, thank my driver," and Amazon sends your most recent delivery driver $5. The 2024 program returned on Dec. 4, and once again gave $5 tips on behalf of the first 2 million people who told their Alexa device to thank their driver.
Amazon is no longer awarding the $5 tips for 2024, but you can still ask Alexa to send your driver a thank-you and give them a chance at winning a prize. As of Dec. 11, Amazon announced that they'll still be giving out money to drivers through the end of December. If you ask Alexa to thank your driver, Amazon will keep tabs of the thank-yous and give out prizes to the most-thanked drivers.

The “Alexa, Thank My Driver” program returned on Dec. 4, 2024 (The $5 tips are no longer available, but you can still thank your driver).
The “Thank My Driver” program usually comes around every December, starting Dec. 12 in 2023 and Dec. 7 in 2022. The program remains active until the first 2 million people have thanked their drivers.
When the $5 program ends (which it has for 2024), you can still thank your driver without the tip. Amazon tracks these reports. And, in 2024, it's using them to determine which drivers can win $100, $10,000, and $25,000 prizes.
In 2024, the program first launched on Dec. 4 and hit 2 million thank-yous after six days.
Even though the $5 tips are gone, Amazon will be giving out cash prizes to the most-thanked drivers through December.
Dec. 11 Update: Those initial 2 million $5 tips have run out, but Amazon has announced that they'll still be giving out money to drivers through the end of December. If you ask Alexa to thank your driver, Amazon will keep tabs of the thank-yous and give out the following:
$100 each to the 1,000 most-thanked drivers each day for the rest of December.
$10,000 to the seven most-thanked drivers each week for the rest of December.
$25,000 plus an additional $25,000 paid by Amazon to the charity of choice for the seven most-thanked drivers from Dec. 4 - 31.
You'll need an Alexa device or a smartphone to thank your driver.
There are two ways to participate in the gratitude program.
First, the “Thank My Driver” feature is available to U.S. customers with an Alexa-enabled device (Echo, Echo Show) or the Alexa app or Amazon Shopping app. Just tell Alexa, “Thank my driver,” and your most recent driver will be notified.
Second, you can type “Thank my driver” into the search bar of your Amazon app. Your latest Amazon driver will be notified.
Can I thank my driver if I don’t have a smartphone?
Unfortunately, if you don’t have a smartphone or an Alexa-enabled device, you won’t be able to participate in the Amazon “Thank My Driver” feature.

You can use the service to thank your driver within 14 days of their most recent delivery. Although the $5 bonus program usually ends pretty quickly every year, you’ll still be able to say thank you using your Echo, Alexa devices, or Alexa and Amazon Shopping apps.
Which Amazon drivers get the $5 bonus?
Amazon Flex Delivery Partners, Delivery Associates employed by Amazon Delivery Service Partners, and Hub DP drivers are all eligible for the $5 bonuses, up until the first 2 million users thank their drivers. After that, drivers will be alerted someone thanked them, but won't get $5. They will, however, have that thank-you counted toward their tally for one of the bigger prizes.
How will I know “Thank My Driver” worked?
You’ll know it works when your Alexa responds, “Glad you enjoyed your most recent delivery. Since you shared your appreciation with your driver, as a special thanks this holiday season, your driver will receive an extra $5 at no cost to you. This promotion is for a limited time only.” After the $5 promo ends, you'll get something like, "We're glad you enjoyed your last delivery, we'll let your driver know."
