Amazon drivers are notoriously overworked, especially during the holiday season. And for the second year, Amazon offered a special gratitude program that helps drivers out in December. Those of you with an Amazon Alexa-enabled device or the Amazon app can say, “Alexa, thank my driver.”
The 2023 program returned on Dec. 12, and once again gave $5 tips for the first 2 million people who told their Alexa device to thank their driver. While the promotion is over, you can still thank your driver without the tip. (Plus, we think the promotion may return like it did last year).
“For drivers, it’s more than just the packages that they deliver — they form relationships with customers, provide support to the community in tough moments, and sometimes play the role of the unexpected hero,” Beryl Tomay, vice president of Last Mile Delivery at Amazon, said in a statement.

The “Alexa, thank my driver” program returned on Dec. 12, 2023 and ended the same day. However, you can still thank your driver without the tip.
We thought Amazon might not be doing the “thank my driver” program in 2023, because it didn’t start as early as it did in 2022 (Dec. 7). But shoppers noticed that the tipping program was active again starting Tuesday, Dec. 12 — and remained active until the first 2 million people thanked their drivers.
The $5 tip promotion is over now, but you can still thank your driver without the tip. Amazon tracks these reports, which can potentially help these drivers advance within the company.
In 2022, the program first launched on Dec. 7, took a brief pause after hitting 1 million “thank yous” and came back on Dec. 21 — giving everyone a chance to thank their drivers once again.
You don’t need an Alexa device to thank your driver.
There are two ways to participate in the gratitude program.
First, the “Thank My Driver” feature is available to U.S. customers with an Alexa-enabled device (Echo, Echo Show) or the Alexa or Amazon Shopping mobile apps. Just tell Alexa, “Thank my driver,” and your most recent driver will be notified.
Second, you can type “Thank my driver” into the search bar of your Amazon app. Your latest Amazon driver will be notified. Even though they won’t receive the $5 tip, Amazon tracks these reports, and this can help the retailer track the driver’s performance.
Amazon covered the $5 driver bonus for the first 2 million “thank yous” received in the program. The driver with the most thank yous received $10,000 and an additional $10,000 donated to their charity of choice.
Can I thank my driver if I don’t have a smartphone?
Unfortunately, if you don’t have a smartphone or an Alexa-enabled device, you won’t be able to participate in the Amazon “Thank My Driver” feature.

How long do I have to thank my Amazon driver?
You can use the service to thank your driver within 14 days of their most recent delivery. Although the $5 bonus program ended, you’ll still be able to say thank you using your Echo, Alexa devices, or Alexa and Amazon Shopping apps.
Which Amazon drivers got the $5 bonus?
Amazon Flex Delivery Partners, Delivery Associates employed by Amazon Delivery Service Partners, and Hub DP drivers were all eligible for the $5 bonuses.
How will I know “Thank My Driver” worked?
You’ll know it works when your Alexa responds, “Glad you enjoyed your most recent delivery. Since you shared your appreciation with your driver, as a special thanks this holiday season, your driver will receive an extra $5 at no cost to you. This promotion is for a limited time only.”
