The Semi-Annual Target Toy Sale is hands-down one of the best times to stock up on toys. I’m talking about getting your family’s favorite brands for up to 70-90% off!

Guys, this is the time to buy for birthday gifts throughout the year and next year’s holiday presents. Here’s what you need to know to shop smart during one of the biggest toy clearance events of the year:

1. Shop the Semi-Annual Target Toy Sale in July and January to save up to 90%.

Christmas in July? Basically!

In July and January, Target stores mark down popular brands like Barbie, LEGO, Fisher-Price, Leap Frog and more to make room for additional inventory. Expect this big toy sale to last about a month — and for competing deals at retailers like Walmart.

Walmart will also clearance their toy inventory following the holidays, so make sure to check prices at both stores before buying. If Walmart has the cheaper price and it’s reflected in their online clearance pricing, let your cashier know for a Target price match.

To stay on top of the best Target deals and Walmart promos, turn on alerts for your family’s favorite brands in the free KCL app.

2. Get Target toy clearance at 30, 50, 70, and 90% off throughout the semi-annual sale.

Target toy clearance starts at 30% and typically progresses to 50% off within a week, followed by 70% and 90% off in the following weeks. Markdowns usually happen on Thursdays, but are inconsistent during the toy sale.

These days, 90% clearance is rare at Target — especially for the most popular toys. Brands like Barbie and Lego will rarely hit 70% markdowns, so if you see 30% off on these brands, buy ’em! It may not get cheaper.

3. Not every item will have the yellow clearance sticker on it.

There are two ways to find clearance toys. The first is to find items with yellow clearance stickers on them.

The second is to find yellow signage that indicates the clearance price of a particular item. Those items probably won’t have the yellow clearance sticker on them.

When in doubt, use the price scanners scattered throughout Target stores.

4. Use BrickSeek to check toy sale inventory at Target and Walmart.

Inventory — especially during big semi-annual sales — varies by location. Even your local Target stores will have different toys in stock.

To save time and check inventory before leaving the house, use BrickSeek.com and enter the DPCI code for the item you’re shopping for. BrickSeek is free and will tell you whether it’s available at any of the Target (or Walmart) stores near you.

Best part? KCL has included the DPCI codes in all the Semi-Annual Target toy sale deals we post, including this one: Up to 50% Off Semi-Annual Toy Clearance at Target — so shop on!

5. Check Target clearance Instagram to see what other people are finding.

Target clearance is a hot topic on Instagram during the Semi-Annual Target toy sales, and although inventory varies between stores, it’s always good to see what other people are able to score.
