Get excited, my fellow book worms: The Barnes & Noble Book Haul event is back as of Aug. 18, and it's running through Sept. 2, 2024. This once-a-year sale offers up 50% off select books, ranging from juicy beach reads to self-help titles to cookbooks. Inventory is limited, however, so you don't really want to hold out until Labor Day to get the books you want.

A 50% off discount is pretty much the highest Barnes & Noble deal you'll see all year. And since they don't price match, you can't even hit them up when other booksellers have sales.

Let's dive into everything we know about the Barnes & Noble Book Haul, including tips about scoring free shipping.

Barnes & Noble Book Haul is an annual sale offering 50% off select books across fiction and non-fiction categories.

Once a year Barnes & Noble rolls out their Book Haul event with select books priced at 50% off, both in-store and online. It usually starts in the middle of August and runs through Labor Day. During this sale you'll find half-off fiction and non-fiction books. It's a great time to stock up on gifts and replenish your own library because can you ever have enough books? I think not.

The Barnes & Noble Book Haul is running from Sunday, Aug. 18, through Monday, Sept. 2.

Now is the time to pounce if you want to score 50% off select bestsellers, new releases, and even collector's editions of old favorites. The sale lasts roughly two weeks, give or take a few days, but don't wait too long to make your selections — inventory is limited.

Tips to Shop the Sale

Any time I can get a good deal on new reads, I go all in. Here are a few ways you can make shopping the Barnes & Noble Book Haul a little easier.

Sort books by category to get straight to the titles you're most interested in online.

Here's the thing — there are literally hundreds of books involved in this sale. Now if you have a lot of time on your hands, maybe it's a treat to be able to sift through every single one of them. Most of us don't have that kind of time. I like to go to the Book Haul homepage, then click on either 50% off Fiction, 50% off Non-Fiction, or 50% off New Releases (listed along the left hand side of the screen) to narrow down my search. Then, I go to the 'Sort By' box on the top right and choose 'Price: Low to High' so that I can see the cheapest books first.

Score free shipping on orders of $40 or more.

Barnes & Noble does offer free in-store pickup, but the books you want have to be available at your local store to take advantage of that. Otherwise, you'll need to spend at least $40 to get free shipping (and that's only if you're within the U.S.), shipping fees will still apply to international orders.

All orders for eligible items totaling $40 or more qualify for Free Standard Shipping within the U.S. If you don't hit that threshold, you're on the hook for shipping to the tune of $5.99.

Note: If you become a Barnes & Noble Premium member, you can get free standard shipping with no minimum purchase. However that costs $34.99/year, so if you're not ordering books that often, it may not be worth the expense.
