The Barnes & Noble Book Haul event is an annual August event that starts mid-August and typically runs through Labor Day. This once-a-year sale offers up to 50% off select hardcover books, ranging from beach reads to self-help titles to cookbooks. Inventory is limited, however, so you don't really want to hold out for long to get the books you want. We last saw the sale in August 2025, and we expect to see it come back next year at the same time.
A 50% off discount is pretty much the highest Barnes & Noble deal you'll see all year. And since there's no Barnes & Noble price match, you can't even hit them up when other booksellers have sales.
During the 2025 sale, our KCL staffers were most excited to see these titles at 50% off: A Curse Carved in Bone by Danielle L. Jensen, Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez, The Perfect Marriage , by Jeneva Rose, Wind and Truth by Brandon Sanderson, Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams, and The Poppy Fields by Nikki Erlick.

Barnes & Noble Book Haul is an annual sale offering 50% off select fiction and non-fiction books.
Once a year, Barnes & Noble rolls out their Book Haul event with select books priced at 50% off, both in-store and online. It usually starts in the middle of August and runs through Labor Day. KCL predicts the next Barnes & Noble Book Haul will run Aug. 20 - Sept. 7, 2026

How do we make our prediction?
It's all about the historical data. The sale usually starts in mid-August and runs through Labor Day. Premium Rewards members usually starts two days before the sale kicks off for everyone. If you want to shop early, Premium Rewards membership costs $39.99 per year.
Because the sale runs through Labor Day and usually lasts 20 days, we predict it will kick off Aug. 20 next year and run until Sept. 7 (Labor Day).

Score free shipping on orders of $50 or more.
Barnes & Noble does offer free in-store pickup, but the books you buy have to be available at your local store. Otherwise, you'll need to spend at least $50 to get free shipping (and that's only if you're within the U.S.); shipping fees will still apply to international orders.
All orders for eligible items totaling $50 or more qualify for free standard shipping within the U.S. If you don't hit that threshold, you'll pay $6.99 for shipping.
KCL TIP: If you become a Barnes & Noble Premium member, you can get free standard shipping with no minimum purchase. However that costs $39.99/year, so if you're not ordering books that often, it may not be worth the expense.
