You might think that unless your kid is a top student or athlete college scholarships are out of reach. However, that is completely not the case. This list of college scholarships isn’t based on those criteria.

Moreover, the goal is to get your kids through college with as little debt as possible. To do that, you gotta get creative, and believe me, these unique scholarships for college students are pretty out there.

Note: Not all of these college scholarships accept applications year-round, so if one of these isn’t currently accepting, check back closer to the scholarship’s deadline.

Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Sony Pictures Scholarship

June scholarships highlight food and the culinary arts, the ocean, easy money, prom, and empowering women. Their combined total is over $39,500.

CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students

• Deadline: June 1, 2024

• Available to: Minority students — Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, and/or Pacific Islanders — in a PharmD program with a 3.0 GPA or higher

• Amount: $8,000 (five recipients)

Details: The CVS Health Minority Scholarship for Pharmacy Students awards folks in underrepresented communities who are pursuing a degree in pharmacy. To apply, simply ensure you meet eligibility guidelines and acquire the requested letters of recommendation and transcripts.

Stuck at Prom Scholarship

• Deadline: June 7, 2024

• Available to: Students 14 years old and up in high school

Details: Student survivors of childhood strokes can win the CHASA Scholarship for Childhood Stroke Survivors to help pay for their secondary education. Clubs of America Scholarship

Frito Lay Community Builders Scholarship

Details: This needs-based scholarship requires applicants who improve their communities (as demonstrated in your skills, extra curricular activities, work experience, personal/professional goals) and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest Scholarship

• Deadline: Nov. 29, 2024

• Available to: High school senior with enviable duck calling skills

• Amount: $2,000 (first place), $1,000 (second place), $750 (third place), $500 (fourth place)

Details: A uniquely performative scholarship, the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest is part of the World’s Champion Duck Calling Contest that happens every year in Stuttgart, Arkansas. The winner of the scholarship — whoever can crush all four: hail, feed, comeback, and mating call — will receive some money for their college fund.

Francis Ouimet Scholarship

• Deadline: December 1, 2024

• Available to: High school seniors or college students that have performed 2+ years as caddies or in golf professional or course superintendent operations at a Massachusetts golf course

• Amount: $1,500 to $15,000

Details: The Francis Ouimet Scholarship requires three essays, three letters of recommendation, a high school/college transcript, and ACT/SAT scores along with your application. Financial need determines the amount of scholarship awarded.

Transportation Development Foundation (TDF) Student Video Contest

• Deadline: Dec. 2, 2024

• Available to: Students from Kindergarten to Graduate School

• Amount: $500 (first place in category) and $250 (second place in each category)

Details: The TDF wants you to create a 2- to 4-minute video for the Transportation Development Foundation Student Video Contest on the importance of transportation infrastructure to the economy. Each category is judged separately, and students in grades K-12 are judged separately from college students.

Worthy Women’s Scholarship

• Available to: Students 14 and up

Details: “Imagine a historical figure is brought back to life. Who is it? What’s their favorite mobile app?” You’ll get 250 words or less to answer this for your chance to win the Unigo 10K Scholarship.

Getting Real About Distracted Driving Scholarship

• Deadline: Dec. 31, 2024

• Available to: Students planning on going to college, university, or a continuing education program

January scholarships concentrate on nontraditional students, the applicant’s dreams, and med students. Combined, these are worth $46,500.

The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Scholarship

• Deadline: Varies by location, entries reopen in January

• Available to: Nontraditional adult students

• Amount: Up to $10,000

Details: If you’re reentering college or enrolling later in life, you could earn the Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) Scholarship. You must live within the boundaries of an Executive Women International chapter, demonstrate financial need, and describe your challenge and goals.

Dewalt Trades Scholarship

• Deadline: Jan. 17, 2025 (or, when they receive 1,000 applications)

• Available to: High school seniors, graduates, or postsecondary undergraduate students

• Amount: $5,000 (up to 40 awards)

Details: In under 300 words, write an essay about how a career in construction and/or the trades will empower your future. You will need to fill out an application and submit a complete transcript of your grades and the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 (black out Social Security #).

I Have a Dream Scholarship

• Deadline: Jan. 31, 2025

• Available to: Students 14 and up

• Amount: $1,500

Details: Describe what you dream about in 250 words or less for a chance to win the I Have a Dream Scholarship contest. You can describe a literal dream you had while asleep, a daydream, or your aspirations and hopes for the future.

Alice W. Rooke Scholarship

• Deadline: Jan. 31, 2025 (will open Nov. 1)

• Available to: Students that possess a pre-med undergraduate degree and are on the road to becoming medical doctors

• Amount: $5,000

Details: First, fill out the application. Second, share your plans for the medical field in 1,000 words. You could earn the Alice W. Rooke Scholarship.

The Boren Awards for International Study Scholarship

• Deadline: Jan. 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. ET

• Available to: Current U.S. college students with an interest in studying less commonly taught languages in countries critical to U.S. National Security. (Think Arabic, Swahili, and Chinese.)

Jeannette Rankin National Scholar Grant

• Available to: Low-income women (income for one is below $23,500) who are 35 or older and pursuing a college education

Details: Finally able to pursue your dream of higher ed? The Jeannette Rankin National Scholar Grant is all about helping make that dream come true. Submit a personal statement, letters of recommendation, proof of acceptance, and/or a transcript to qualify.

Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship

• Deadline: Feb. 20, 2025

• Available to: High school seniors graduating in spring 2023

• Amount: $10,000 (winner), $5,000 (four runners-up)

Details: Win the Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship when you share your passion for vegetarianism with your school or community. Save the piggies, y’all.

Sweet and Simple Scholarship

• Deadline: Feb. 28, 2025

• Available to: Students 14 and up

March scholarships focus on the applicant’s height, safe drinking water, the food service industry, Google, and superheroes. Combined, they are worth up to $58,500.

Tall Clubs International Scholarship

• Deadline: March 1, 2025

• Available to: Incoming college freshmen who are tall. Men must be at least 6′ 2″ and women must be at least 5′ 10″.

Details: If you’ve been given the gift of height, you can potentially win the Tall Clubs International Scholarship for college.

Doodle for Google Scholarship

• Deadline: March 14, 2025

• Available to: All K-12 students, including homeschool students

• Amount: $30,000, plus $50,000 technology award for your school ($5,000 if homeschooled)

Details: Google chooses a new theme every year and invites students to create a doodle featuring their logo. If your doodle wins the national Doodle for Google contest, it gets a feature on Google’s home page for one day. You’ll also receive Google hardware and swag. National Black Nurses Association Scholarships

Too Cool to Pay for School Scholarship

• Deadline March 31, June 30, Sept. 30, and Dec. 31

• Available to: High school, college, and graduate students

• Amount: $1,000

Details: Talk about an easy scholarship. All you have to do is fill out the application and cross your fingers. The Too Cool to Pay for School Scholarship winner is selected through a random drawing. You can reenter for a new drawing every quarter.
