Looking for free family events to keep the kids busy? Find events like Lowe’s Kids’ Workshops, Home Depot’s Kids Workshops, JCPenney Kid Zone Crafts, and even Lego free in-store events for kids.
Lego occasionally holds in-store activities for kids called Lego Build or Lego Make and Take events. Kids get a free Lego set (that isn't available to the public) to build at Lego stores or Barnes & Noble locations, which they can take home. Here's everything you need to know about the Lego Make and Take events.

What exactly is a Lego Build or Make and Take event anyway?
Lego Build or Make and Take It events are in-store opportunities for kids to receive free promotional Lego kits that they can build in a group setting. These events typically run about two hours, but you don’t need to stay that long.
The next in-store Lego Build event, a Lego Steering Wheel, will be on March 9.

Lego stores also run free events on occasion, although there’s no real rhyme or reason to when these are scheduled. In January 2025, they held an event where kids could build a Lego City Soap Box Racer. The next Lego Build event, a Lego Steering Wheel, will be on Sunday, March 9 (noon - 2 p.m.) at Lego stores around the U.S.
Lego Build Events are offered on a first-come, first serve basis, so get there early.
Because these events are so popular, they're offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. That means show up early if you want a chance for your kid(s) to participate. You'll need to contact your local store to confirm event details.
Past Lego Make and Take Events:
Lego City Soap Box Racer
Lego Bunny
Lego Red Brick
Lego Trophy
Lego Friends Skate Ramp
Lego My Starry Night
Lego Frankenstein’s Monster
Lego Space Shuttle
Is there an age limit for a Lego store event?
No, there’s no age limit for these events. However, Lego notes the age group for which the models are best suited. For example, the upcoming Steering Wheel event has a recommended age group of 6 and older.
Select Barnes & Noble locations will host a free Lego Build event in-store the first weekend in May.

Lego stores aren't the only place you'll find Lego Make and Take events. In May, Barnes & Noble locations will hold a Sping in Bloom (spring flower set) Lego Build event that will be absolutely free, no purchase necessary.
Although the event will take place the first weekend in May, the exact date and times will vary by location. One store in Devon, PA, is holding the event on Saturday, May 3 starting at 1 p.m.; another location in Salem, NH, is holding the event on Friday, May 2 from 5 - 7 p.m.; and a store in Orion Township, MI, will be on Sunday, May 4, starting at noon.
To find out if your local store is participating click on the Stores & Events tab at the top left of the Barnes & Noble homepage. From there you can search by zip code, store name, or event name to see if any of the locations near you are participating, as well as the date and time of their particular event.
Sign up in advance, either by calling your participating Barnes & Noble or visiting in-store ahead of the free Lego event.
We can't stress enough how popular anything involving free Legos is, so it’s imperative you sign up for your local event in advance. Some Barnes & Noble locations allow you to call them to secure a spot. Others require you visit in-store ahead of the event to sign up. Whichever method works best at your location, sign up as early as possible. Only one Lego kit is provided per child registered.
