If you’re owed money in a class action settlement, we want you to be the first to know. Unlike product recalls — which just give customers refunds for products that are pulled from the shelves — these settlements are the result of lawsuits where customers band together to sue a company for an alleged mistake.

Chances are, you’re part of some groups that’ll get settlement money. Keep this page bookmarked to find out everything you need to know about these class action settlements.

What is a class-action lawsuit and why is a particular company involved in one? Do you qualify for a payout? How do you claim your settlement money? How much money will you get and when?

We have all the details on the latest 2024 class action settlements — things like who qualifies, how much you’ll get, and whether you’ll need proof to file a claim.

Other Class Action Settlements

settlement-disney-magic-key-dream-pass kclmj

$9.5 Million Disney Magic Key Settlement

Who qualifies? If you were one of the 103,431 people who bought the annual Disneyland Magic Key “Dream Pass”, listen up. If you found that you couldn’t make park reservations on certain days in 2021 — even though you were promised “no blockout dates” — you’re a part of this class action settlement. You won’t even need to fill out a claim form for this settlement.

How much? Each person who qualifies for this settlement is expected to receive a check for $67.41. That’s less than 5% of the $1,399 price tag for the Dream Pass.

Proof needed? No, any Magic Key passholders who are eligible for this settlement will be contacted via email connected to their Disney account. If your email notification is undeliverable or you don't have an email on file with Disney, you'll receive your settlement award via postal mail.

Note: A judge finalized this settlement on March 4, 2024.

Update: Most known eligible Dream Key Passholders have received their compensation of $65.67 (as of June 15). If you were contacted by the settlement administrator but you haven't claimed your payment, you have until Sept. 12. $10.5 Million Macy’s Cotton Sheets Settlement

Proof needed? No.

File a claim 180 days after “Effective Date” (unknown). (File a claim now.)

FCC Cable TV Blackout Refund Proposal

Who qualifies? Anyone whose satellite or cable TV service was interrupted for more than 24 hours. The FCC is proposing this rule because of significant TV blackouts this year, like the ones involving Charter Communications and Disney, which affected millions of viewers. While it’s not exactly a settlement, it does mean compensation could be coming your way soon.

How much? It’s not nailed down yet, but here are the possibilities for how people would be compensated under new FCC rules:

  • A part of your monthly bill returned to you in cash.

  • A credit on your next bill so you pay less.

  • A reduced bill for the following month because of the blackout.

Proof needed? Details aren’t clear yet, but you’d likely need some evidence that your service was out, like a record or notice from the provider.

This hasn’t been decided yet. Once the FCC finalizes everything, they’ll give a date by which folks need to claim their refunds.
