We get it! Milk is a staple in most homes. At a cost of almost $4 a gallon in most grocery stores, we all know how important it is to watch for milk coupons and sales.

Grocery shopping as we know has changed in the last month as the world copes with the uncertainty of the Coronavirus pandemic. With more of us trying to significantly reduce or cease visits to the grocery store, learning how to extend the life of the products you have at home by freezing them is a must. Now don’t worry if you’re new to freezing milk, you can get it done in just as many steps as it takes for you to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop ;). How to Freeze Milk:

1. Leave 1-2 inches at the top of the container you will be freezing the milk in. Milk will expand when freezing, so it’s important to leave a few inches at the top of your container to give it room to expand. If you’re low on storage space in your freezer, you can repackage the milk in smaller containers.

PRO TIP: Freezing changes the texture of the milk once it’s thawed, so consider testing it out in small batches to make sure you like the results.

2. How long does frozen milk last? Milk can be frozen for up to 3-6 months. Write the date you are freezing the milk on the container so you know when you need to use it by. Don’t make the same mistake I did the first time I did this and forget this step.

3. To thaw: Put milk in the refrigerator. Make sure to note the date you took the milk out of the freezer on the container (or somewhere you put your reminders). Milk will be good for 10 days after thawing.

PRO TIP: Freezing changes the texture of the milk once it’s thawed, so consider testing it out in small batches to make sure you like the results.

And there you have it.
