15 Price Adjustment Policies You Need to Know About

Keep these price adjustment policies handy!
Like many Krazy Coupon Ladies, I consider myself a smart and savvy shopper, but I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes my emotions get the best of me. I saw a beautiful cashmere sweater at one of my favorite shops last week for 30% off; it even came in petite sizes—it was too perfect. I thought I had an amazing deal. It was still more than I would normally spend, but I went against my gut and bought it anyway. The next day I got an email that they were now all 40% off—just my luck! Thankfully, while I was online I came across their price adjustment policy and got an additional $10 credited back to my card. Since I had such good luck with this, I thought I’d share a few other fabulous price adjustment policies so hopefully you can save more money and stress less this season!

1. Ann Taylor Price Adjustment Policy

Merchandise purchased at full price is eligible for one price adjustment if the item has been marked down for the first time within 7 days from the original date of purchase. Please note that you are not able to go to the store and request a price adjustment for online purchases.

  • To request a one-time price adjustment, please email clientservices@anntaylor.com within the 7-day window. You will be credited in form of original payment.

2. Athleta Price Adjustment Policy

One-time price adjustment for items marked down within 14 days of the date on your purchase. Items purchased with coupons or promotional discounts are not eligible for price adjustments, but items purchased with Athleta or Gap Inc. brand rewards or free shipping discount codes are eligible.

  • To obtain a price adjustment on an online purchase, you must call 1-877-328-4538, or send an email to custserv@athleta.com within the 14-day window. Include your order number in your email message.
  • To obtain a price adjustment on an in-store purchase, simply take your receipt back to the store within the 14-day window.

3. Banana Republic Price Adjustment Policy

One-time price adjustment for items marked down within 14 days of the date on your purchase. Items purchased with coupons or promotional discounts are not eligible for price adjustments, but items purchased with Banana Republic Card or Gap Inc. brand rewards or free shipping discount codes are eligible.

  • To obtain a price adjustment on an online purchase, you must call 1-888-277-8953 or send an email message at custserv@bananarepublic.com within the 14-day window.
  • To obtain a price adjustment on an in-store purchase, simply take your receipt back to the store within the 14-day window.

4. The Children’s Place

Price adjustments are offered on full-priced merchandise if presented within 7 days of the initial purchase date. Price adjustments are not offered on sale or discounted merchandise that was further reduced.

  • For online purchases: To receive a price adjustment for full-priced items that went on sale within 7 days, please contact Customer Service.
  • For in-store purchases: Please bring the original receipt to any Children’s Place retail location.

5. Gap

One-time price adjustment for items marked down within 14 days of the date on your purchase. Items purchased with coupons or promotional discounts are not eligible for price adjustments, but items purchased with Gap Card Rewards or free shipping discount codes are eligible.

  • To obtain a price adjustment on an online purchase, you must call 1-800-427-7895, or send an email message to custserv@gap.com within the 14-day window. Include your order number in your email message.
  • To obtain a price adjustment on an in-store purchase, simply take your receipt back to the store within the 14-day window.

6. Gymboree

  • In-store purchase: A one-time price adjustment will be permitted within 7 days of initial purchase with original receipt. All adjustments are refunded in the original form of payment. Online purchases cannot receive price adjustments in retail stores. Gymboree may designate that price adjustments are not available during certain promotional events or that price adjustments are not available on certain items.
  • Online purchase: A one-time price adjustment will be permitted on any item within 7 days of initial purchase with original receipt. Price adjustments will not be allowed on some orders that receive promotion discounts (e.g. Gymbucks, Promotional Coupons, Rewards Certificates). To receive a price adjustment for an online purchase, send an email to orders@gymboree.com, contact customer service at 1-877-449-6932 or send your entire packing slip to Gymboree Online Store, Attn: Price Adjustments, 2299 Kids Way, Dixon, CA 95620.

7. Kmart

Customers can receive only one price adjustment on advertised items within 7 days. You must bring in your original sales receipt to receive the adjustment. Price adjustments will not be given on holiday, seasonal, doorbuster merchandise, online prices or merchandise that is on clearance.

8. Kohl’s

Basically, a price adjustment is a refund! In certain cases, they’ll give you money back if you bought an item, only to discover it was on sale later. If your situation meets this criteria, you could be eligible for a price adjustment:

  • You bought the item on sale or at regular price.
  • Within 14 days of the purchase date, the price of the item was further reduced from the final price you paid.
  • You have the original, dated sales receipt.
  • The item is not a Clearance markdown.
  • The item is not Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise.
  • The item was not purchased as a Buy One, Get One (BOGO).
  • The item is not a current Buy One, Get One (BOGO).
  • Price matching and price adjustments on prestige beauty brands and select electronics are excluded.
  • Any promo codes applied to your original purchase must still be valid in order to apply them to the new sale price.

If you bought the item online at Kohls.com, call Customer Service toll-free at 1-855-564-5705.

If you bought the item at a Kohl’s Store near you, please visit the Customer Service Desk at that location with your receipt.

9. Macy’s

If you made your purchase on Macys.com:

  • Price adjustments for sale merchandise can only be made within 14 days of your order being placed.
  • We will refund the price difference to your original form of payment.
  • Submit your request for a price adjustment here.

If you made your purchase at a Macy’s store

  • Price adjustments for sale merchandise can only be made within 14 days of your purchase.
  • Adjustments are made only if the original purchase was made without a coupon.
  • We will refund the price difference to your original form of payment.
  • You must take your purchase back to the store for a price adjustment.

10. Old Navy Price Adjustment Policy

One-time price adjustment for items marked down within 14 days of the date on your purchase. Items purchased with coupons or promotional discounts are not eligible for price adjustments, but items purchased with Old Navy Card or Gap Inc. brand rewards or free shipping discount codes are eligible.

  • To obtain a price adjustment on an online purchase, you must call 1-800-653-6289, or send an email to custserv@oldnavy.com within the 14-day window. Include your order number in your email message.
  • To obtain a price adjustment on an in-store purchase, simply take your receipt back to the store within the 14-day window.

11. Piperlime Price Adjustment Policy

One-time price adjustment for items marked down within 14 days of the date on your purchase. Items purchased with coupons or promotional discounts are not eligible for price adjustments, but items purchased with Piperlime or Gap Inc. brand rewards or free shipping discount codes are eligible.

  • To obtain a price adjustment on an online purchase, you must call 1-877-747-3754, or send an email message to custserv@piperlime.com within the 14-day window. Include your order number in your email message.

12. Pottery Barn Kids Price Match Policy

While regular Pottery Barn does not offer price adjustments, Pottery Barn Kids does have a price match policy you should know about. They will match prices of appointed new products that are sold both by Amazon or sold on Amazon by the manufacturer, as well as Giggle, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Sakes Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Pish Posh Baby, The Tot, and Target.

Keep in mind, however, that plenty of exclusions apply. Price match is only valid for products with a designated Price Match guarantee on the Pottery Barn Kids website. And the item has to be absolutely identical (brand name, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number). Additionally, only one price match per identical item per customer is allowed.

  • If you’re requesting a price match for an online purchase, you must email a copy of the ad or link to competitor pricing to pkpricematch@wsgc.com before making your purchase.
  • If you have questions it’s recommended you call Pottery Barn Kids at 800-586-5615. If you’re shopping in-store, see a store associate.

13. Sears

Sears will make a price adjustment if the item lowers in price up to 14 days after the original purchase date. All Price Match rules and exclusions apply including no Price Protection adjustments between Thanksgiving Day and the Monday after Thanksgiving.

  • To claim a Price Protection Policy adjustment, go to your original Sears store where the purchase was made with your receipt.
  • If your purchase was made on Sears.com, please fill out a Price Protection form.
  • You will be given a refund for the difference of the original selling price and the current advertised/reduced price. Apparel clearance merchandise and conditional Online Only Special Offers do not qualify for Price Protection Policy adjustments.

14. Target

  • Online purchases: Target.com will price match if you see a lower price listed on Target.com or in the Target Weekly Ad the same week or the week following your online order date. Please call Target Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869, as stores are unable to match or adjust the price for a Target.com order.
  • In-store purchases: They’ll match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target or CityTarget stores, then find the identical item for less in the following week’s Target Weekly Ad or within 7 days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad. Price match may be requested prior to your purchase. Simply bring in proof of the current lower price and your original receipt. They’ll match the price at Guest Services.

15. Walmart

  • Online purchases: If the price of an item on Walmart.com changes within 7 days from the date you placed your order, they will provide a price adjustment at your request.
  • In-store purchases: Walmart stores now honor and match prices from Walmart.com and other online sellers, but not from advertisements outside of a store’s local trade territory.
  • Price adjustments are not available for the following:
    • Clearance items
    • Value of the Day or Special Buy items
    • Thanksgiving, Black Friday or Cyber Week items
    • Associate Discount Card purchases
