Did you know you can make money by sharing your opinion? I know, right? It sounds like a trap (especially when your husband asks you for your opinion and then is like…). But it’s true. In fact, I’ve earned about $50 in a month just for answering questions.

Survey sites? Really?

Really! Here’s how it works: Online survey sites conduct marketing research for big brands like Sony, Disney, and Samsung. When you sign up for surveys, you first fill out a questionnaire so they know if you fit the right demographic for a specific consumer study. When you fit the right demographic, you’re invited to take a survey. In return for your opinions, you get rewarded with points that turn into cash and prizes—plus, it’s pretty legit knowing your opinion is influencing the future of products.

Note you won’t just start taking surveys immediately. In fact, depending on your demographics, you’ll probably only take a couple a month from each site. Our advice: sign up for all of these sites today or within the next few days so you can get plenty of surveys to choose from over the next few weeks. The more surveys you take, the more you earn every month. Here are the ones I’m totally crushing on:

1. Toluna

I’m a huge advocate of earning money while rocking these adorable bunny slippers, and Toluna allows me to do just that. Like Inbox Dollars, Toluna works for companies seeking consumer opinions, so it’s the perfect platform to share your experiences and ideas about products on the market. Whenever you take a survey, you’re helping Toluna provide consumer data to big brands, and in return, Toluna says thanks with gift cards and freebies.

The fun little surveys add up, too. By the end of the week, you might even have enough points for a gift card. (You’ll also feel happy knowing you spent less time photographing your pet hedgehog for Facebook. Now that’s achievement!)

2. National Consumer Panel

The same company that tracks TV ratings has a new NCP app that pays you to scan the groceries in your fridge. Every time you go shopping, just scan the barcodes on the back of each product and send your data off to NCP to get paid!

3. Springboard America

Springboard America makes their questions interesting, and their surveys force me to think about my own views, which can be pretty exciting. The downside? The payout amount is $50, which might seem pretty high if you’re only taking a survey or two every couple of weeks. I’m getting roughly 3-5 per week right now, so I look at it as a savings account to help pay for Christmas presents.

4. InboxDollars

With InboxDollars, your minimum cash-out amount is $30, so expect it to take a couple of months for you to reach payout. Still, when you get paid, you’ll enjoy receiving a check or Visa cash card. I like to think of this as a temporary savings account, or even like finding money in my winter coat pocket I’d totally forgotten about! Inbox Dollars also has an app for both Apple and Android phones, so it’s easy to earn on the go. You can also refer friends and earn 10% of whatever they earn.

In fact, in only 10 minutes I made over $18!

5. Pinecone Research

We love that Pinecone Research requires no minimum payout amount. You earn $3 for every survey you take, and since most surveys only take about 15-20 minutes—that’s about $12 an hour just for answering questions! Get paid via check or PayPal. To boot, Pinecone’s one of the more reliable survey sites out there. Win-meet-win, table for two.

6. Opinion Outpost

Around longer than most survey sites, Opinion Outpost gives users a smoother process for signing up with more overall surveys. They’ll even let you know right away what kinds of questions you’ll answer (like, “Do you own any of the following pets?” and “On average, how many minutes a day do you watch TV?”).

My favorite thing about this site is how quickly they reward you, since I received payment via PayPal (minimum payout request amount: $10) only minutes after requesting my reward (you can also be paid with Amazon credit, iTunes gift cards, and charitable donations as soon as your balance hits $5).

Bonus Opportunity: Swagbucks

One of the reasons I like Swagbucks is because they’ll tell you right away where your opinions are going. You can even earn extra points (a.k.a. Swag Bucks that can be traded in for gift cards or cash) by doing other things (think taking the polls and surveys, going shopping, and doing all your Internet searches). Be prepared: It’s super easy to become obsessed with SBs once you get started!
