Giant Food is a supermarket chain with about 165 locations in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. They offer some exciting perks for couponers, including the ability to double coupons, which boosts savings like crazy.

Sign up for a Giant Card so you can load digital coupons to your account.

Make sure you sign up for a Giant Card in addition to downloading the Giant app (iOS / Android) if you want to access digital coupons to use in the store.

To get a Giant Card, create a Giant account and when you add coupons in the app, they'll automatically load to your Giant Card, too.

Sign up for Flexible Rewards to save money on groceries or fuel.

Giant Food's loyalty program, Flexible Rewards, allows you to earn one point for every $1 you spend at Giant — even for pharmacy and prescription purchases. When you reach 100 points (meaning you've spent $100 in the store), you'll get one "reward." You can redeem rewards to get money off your next grocery total (every time you spend $100, you can redeem $1 off), or to get fuel rewards ($0.10 off per gallon every time you spend $100).

Points and rewards both expire 30 days after you earn them.

Giant Food stores double paper manufacturer coupons valued up to $0.99 off.

This means any paper manufacturer coupon you have that's valued at $0.99 off (or less) will be doubled. So, if you have a coupon for $0.25 off Charmin toilet paper, you'll get $0.50 off instead. If your manufacturer coupon is for $1 off or more, you'll receive the regular face value of the coupon — it won't be doubled because that's over $0.99.

If doubling the coupon makes the coupon exceed the value of the item, Giant will adjust the value of the coupon to match the item's price. So, if you have a coupon for $0.75 off Crest toothpaste and Crest is on sale for $1 per tube, your coupon value would double, resulting in a coupon worth $1.50 off one tube of Crest. However, Giant won't open the till and hand you $0.50 in "overage" to cover that extra $0.50 you saved. Instead, they'll adjust the price of the coupon to match the price of your item and you'll get the Crest for "free." (You'll still pay sales tax as you would with any item you bought using manufacturer coupons.)

Unfortunately, you cannot double store coupons. And digital manufacturer coupons also do not double.

Double up to four "like" manufacturer coupons.

Giant won't double every manufacturer coupon you bring in. But they'll double up to four on an identical product. Let's say you want to buy five boxes of Cheerios and you have five paper General Mills manufacturer coupons that say $0.50 off. Giant will double the first four manufacturer coupons, so you'll receive $1 off each of those four boxes of General Mills cereal. But you won't be able to use a coupon on the fifth box of cereal.

TIP: Giant will not double Catalina coupons at all and digital coupons can only be redeemed once.

Go ahead and stack store and manufacturer coupons.

As a refresher, "stack" means to combine multiple coupons or offers on a single item. The most traditional form of stacking is combining a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon on a single item.

At Giant, you can stack store and manufacturer coupons as long as they are in the same format. This means you can stack a paper store coupon and a paper manufacturer coupon on a single item. Or you can stack a digital store coupon and a digital paper manufacturer coupon on the same item. But you cannot stack a digital manufacturer coupon with a paper store coupon or a paper manufacturer coupon with a digital store coupon to get a deeper discount on an item.

Now, to make it more confusing, you can use a mix of digital and paper coupons on an order or in a transaction, as long as you're not trying to stack a mixture (paper and digital together) on the same item. So, you can use a digital coupon to get a discount on Venus razors and a paper coupon to get a discount on Tide in the same transaction.

Your manufacturer coupons are applied first, then store coupons.

Giant applies manufacturer coupons first, so if you're doubling a below-$0.99 manufacturer coupon and you also have a store coupon that would cause the item's total to dip below $0, Giant will take both coupons and you'll get the item free. It's a similar idea as above — Giant doesn't pay overage, so they'll just adjust the value of the store coupon down to match the item's total value, resulting in a freebie for you!

Apply one "basket" offer per order.

Basket offers are store coupons for a dollar amount off your total. For example, "$5 off your next grocery purchase of $30 or more." You can only apply one of these to each of your total purchases.

TIP: Use promo code GFSAVE to get $25 off your first two Delivery or Pickup orders of $100 or more at Giant.

Use a coupon on a Buy 1, Get 1 Free promotion to get both items free.

Yes, this can result in two freebies! This is noteworthy because most stores will not allow you to get both items free with a coupon. How does it work?

Let's say you have two coupons for $1 off Softsoap and Softsoap is on sale for $1 each. Giant will apply your first $1 off Softsoap coupon, resulting in a free Softsoap thanks to the coupon plus the sale price. But you'll also get your second item free because of the B1G1 Free store promotion, no coupon necessary.

TIP: If you have a "free item" Giant coupon, you can combine it with a B1G1 Free promotion or coupon to get both items free as well.

You can use competitor coupons at Giant Food.

Giant Food honors coupons from competitors as long as all the qualifications for the item's size and quantity can be met. The only store you can't use a competitor coupon or offer from are club stores like BJ's, Costco, or Sam's Club.

Take advantage of the household card-sharing option for Flexible Rewards.

You can share your coupons, points, and rewards with anyone who shares your home address through Flexible Rewards. This means you can send your partner or roommate to the store to shop for you and still get your discounts.

Use paper coupons for grocery pickup and delivery.

Just place your coupons in an envelope with your name and/or order number on it and the Giant associate loading groceries into your car for pickup (or delivering groceries to your home) will verify your coupons and credit the savings to your account.

Refer a friend and you'll get $10 off your next $100+ pickup or delivery order.

Your friend will also get $25 off their first two orders of $100 or more. Sign up to get your unique Giant referral code.

Stack rebate offers from Ibotta or Fetch Rewards for even deeper savings.

The cool thing about Ibotta and Fetch Rewards rebates is that Giant has no idea you're redeeming them. So you can use a manufacturer and a store coupon on a sale item at Giant and then redeem an Ibotta offer, too!
