Michaels free craft classes have long been an easy way to entertain kids on weekends. The classes moved online for a while, then went away entirely (much to the disappointment of many parents). They came back in mid-2025, though, and now, in 2026, are happening every week on Sundays. They're just one of the many free store crafting events for kids.

The class is free, but you may have to pay for some of the supplies: There's no cost for the class. And in many cases, supplies are totally free. However, for some classes, you'll need to purchase a supply or two (think a mason jar or a charm, nothing major). Be prepared to spend up to $5, but not more than that.

Check the age restrictions: Some crafts are all ages, but some are for kids 13 and up. Check the age requirement on the schedule before taking your kid to the store. Other stores' crafting events (like Home Depot) are consistently for kids as young as five, but for Micheals, the minimum age varies.

Classes last an hour to 90 minutes: Start times vary by store. You'll need to check the schedule and enter your ZIP code to see start times near you.

You don't have to register in advance: Classes are first come, first served.

The craft changes every week. For 2026, the classes are heavy on Valentine's Day in January and February. But you'll also find yarn-painting, chenille flowers, paper butterflies, and carts.
Does Michaels have craft classes for adults?
They do! Michaels craft classes for adults are done virtually over Zoom, and it's free to sign up. The catch is that while the instruction portion of the class is free, if you want to follow along, you'll need to purchase the materials ahead of time in order to do the project.
