8 Ways to Get Magazines for Free or Cheap

The Krazy Coupon Lady is an ad-supported service. Many offers on our site contain affiliate links, and we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase using them. Some posts are sponsored by the maker of the product, and we receive a fee for the post. See our full advertiser disclosure.

As a busy mom, it seems as though I rarely get a moment to myself. However, when I do, I love putting my feet up, sipping a good cup of coffee, and grabbing a magazine to relax with! I love all sorts of magazines from food and fashion to home décor, and even a celebrity gossip magazine every now and then. However, magazine subscriptions can be pricey, costing anywhere from $12 to $25 or more. Instead of paying those high subscription fees, check out these seven great sites where you can snag these mags for free or very cheap:

1. Here on KCL!

If you thought TheKrazyCouponLady.com was just for grocery and drugstore finds, you couldn’t be more wrong! We post all sorts of deals on KCL, and that includes hot finds on magazines. We’ve partnered with Discount Mags to bring you the best deals on the most popular magazines like Everyday with Rachael Ray, Weight Watchers, Runners World, ESPN and Martha Stewart Living. Many subscriptions are just $4.99, so for the cover price of one issue, you can get a year’s worth of magazines delivered right to your door. Also, with the coupon code KRAZY you can always get an extra 20 percent off, no matter the price! And unlike some other discount magazine sites, no auto-renewal is necessary. You can find all of our magazine deals here.

2. Mercury Magazines

When checking out deals for magazines on KCL, you may see offers from Mercury Magazines. Mercury Magazines matches magazines to people based on their careers, so it will require that you answer a few questions about your employment. However, even selecting “homemaker” will usually qualify you to receive most of the magazines. The best free magazines from Mercury will usually be found through exclusive links, but there are often freebies to be had just by visiting the main page. In fact, last time I checked their site, there was a free offer for Maxim.
They also offer a wide range of magazine subscriptions like Us, Better Homes & Gardens and Elle for $1 with an additional $1 for shipping.

3. Recyclebank

Recyclebank is one of my favorite spots for getting magazine subscriptions. In fact, over the last year on Recyclebank, I’ve received subscriptions to InStyle, StyleWatch, Martha Stewart Living, Glamour and Everyday Food—all for free! If you’re not already familiar with Recyclebank, they offer great rewards for taking everyday green actions. You can complete tasks like watching a video or slideshow or taking a pledge to complete a green action. In exchange for these actions, users are rewarded with points that can be exchanged for coupons, gift cards and, yep, magazines! What I love about Recyclebank is that the points can add up very quickly and that the selection of magazines is always changing. Another great feature to Recyclebank is that I often find magazines such as InStyle that are rarely offered for free elsewhere.

4. RewardsGold

RewardsGold is another great site to constantly keep your eye on because the selection of free magazines is always rotating. This site usually requires that you fill out a little survey or review a product in order to receive the free subscription, but they are usually very short and only take a few minutes to complete. A few weeks ago, RewardsGold was offering a free one-year subscription to Shape. Since I am terribly out of shape, I decided I needed to hop on this offer! In exchange for the subscription, I had to complete a short survey on exercising, as well as write two short paragraphs regarding my exercise routine and my favorite piece of exercising equipment. All in all, this task took less than five minutes, which to me was well worth the time for a subscription valued at the full price of $18.

5. ValueMags

ValueMags is another great site for finding freebies. This site sells subscriptions to virtually every magazine you can imagine, but they also always have a selection of free magazines to choose from. Some of the free magazines are only for one issue, but others are for a full year. In the past I’ve snagged subscriptions to Maxim and American Baby on ValueMags and have often seen bridal and fashion magazines listed. What I love about ValueMags is that they won’t ever send a bill and don’t require auto-renewal, so you don’t have to worry about canceling these subscriptions in the future.

6. Amazon

When a friend of mine moved to South Carolina, I wanted to get her a subscription to Coastal Life. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it for less than $18—until I checked on Amazon, where I found it for $5! If you need a magazine for a gift or just can’t seem to find the one that you really want for free, Amazon is one of the best places to check. Not only do they offer good deals on most magazines, but they always have $5 and $10 deals. In fact, last time I looked on Amazon, I found Cosmo, Good Housekeeping, Marie Claire, Bazaar, Redbook and tons more for $5!

7. Best Deal Magazines

If you thought $5 was a good deal, how about $4.69? Best Deal Magazines often has $4.69 deals which in the past have included Better Homes and Gardens, Bridal Guide and Family Circle. They also have $5.95 subscriptions which include quite a few niche magazines that are difficult to find cheap or free such as Arts and Crafts Homes, Digital Photo and Bicycling. In addition to these two price categories, Best Deal Magazines also has weekly specials and deals under $10. This is one of the best sites out there for locating hard-to-find magazines and also has a great selection of children’s magazines like Odyssey and National Geographic Kids. They also offer a small selection of books as well as free trade publications, such as quick reference guides for Microsoft programs.

8. e-Rewards

If you enjoy taking surveys, then e-Rewards may be a good option for you. e-Rewards, which is an invite-only survey site, offers cash, which can be redeemed for prizes such as gift cards and magazines, in exchange for your opinions on various topics. Generally, surveys on e-Rewards take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete and offer anywhere from $2 to $5. However, one of the perks to e-rewards is that if you begin the survey and you don’t qualify, they usually give you 25 cents for your time, which can add up! The amount of surveys that you will be sent varies from week to week. Some weeks you may only receive one invite and other weeks you may receive several. One of the best things about e-Rewards is the selection of magazines that they have to choose from, which includes many that you don’t often find for free. Some of the magazines that e-Rewards currently offers are subscriptions to Parents, Lucky, Inc. and Vogue. To join e-Rewards you will need to be invited by one of their sponsors, such as Best Buy, Hertz or Netflix. If you’ve signed up for email alerts from one of their sponsor’s websites, then you may receive an invitation to join. If you haven’t, it never hurts to try emailing one of the sponsors and asking for an invitation!
