We hate breaking the news on recalls, but it’s particularly unfortunate when its infant formula affected. However, on March 17, 2023, Gerber issued a recall of some of their Gerber Good Start SoothePro powdered infant formula in the United States. This is due to potential contamination by Cronobacter sakazakii, a germ found naturally in the environment that can live in dry foods.
Perrigo Company plc, the manufacturer of the infant formula, is issuing the recall as a precautionary measure to protect the health of infants. Consumers who purchased one of the affected products with codes matching those recalled (shown below) should discontinue use. Then call Gerber Parents Resource Center on behalf of Perrigo at 1-800-777-7690 in order to receive a refund.
This powdered formula is sold at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and other large retailers across the U.S. So far no adverse effects related to the Gerber Good Start recall have been reported. Gerber is voluntarily issuing a recall for this formula due to the potential presence of bacteria.

Perrigo Company is voluntarily recalling select Gerber Good Start formulas manufactured at the company’s Gateway Eau Claire, Wisconsin facility between Jan. 2, 2023, to Jan. 18, 2023. The formula is being recalled as a precaution due to the potential presence of Cronobacter sakazakii.
Cronobacter sakazakii is a type of bacteria that is frequently present in the environment. While it typically doesn’t cause any symptoms in the majority of people, it can lead to fever, poor feeding, excessive crying, low energy, and other severe symptoms in certain groups. At-risk groups include premature infants, infants under the age of two months, or infants with compromised immune systems.
Only Good Start SoothePro formula is affected.

Consumers who purchased the following products after March 5, 2023 should look for the below Lot Codes and “use by” date, which is found on the bottom of the package. No other lot codes are impacted by this recall. If you purchased a product with matching codes, discontinue use, dispose of the product, and contact Gerber.

This phone number is managed 24 hours per day, seven days a week. If your child has consumed any of the impacted formulas, Gerber recommends reaching out to their pediatrician or healthcare provider with any questions or concerns. It’s worth noting that there have been no health-related impacts reported due to this recall as of today.
No Gerber baby food has been affected by this recall.

This recall only affects certain batches of Gerber Good Start SoothePro powdered formula. At this time, there are no reports of any baby food being impacted. If you do have any concerns regarding other Gerber products, contact Gerber on behalf of Perrigo at 1-800-777-7690.
