Olympia Sports is saying its final goodbye. After 37 years, the East Coast-based sporting goods chain is closing its doors.

Olympia faced big competition from other brick-and-mortar sporting goods retailers like Dick’s, Academy, Cabela’s, and REI — not to mention Amazon online.

They’re shutting down soon, but bargain-hunters are perking up because these closures mean a massive Olympia Sports liquidation sale is happening. Here’s how you can score major sports gear and equipment discounts.

Olympia Sports will close its last 35 stores by the end of September.

The sporting goods store’s humble beginnings started in 1975 with one store in Portland, Maine, before expanding to 226 stores across the East Coast.

By 2019 that number shrank to 150, and then 76 more stores were closed that year. Now there are only a few dozen in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Maine.

On July 22, an Olympia Sports rep told the Portland Press Herald that they would shut down the last 35 stores by Sep. 30.

Liquidation sales started July 22 with 50% off but will probably reach 90% by September.

If you’re by an Olympia Sports store, you’ll probably see their prices cut by 25% – 50%. Considering they’re closing, that might not seem like a lot, but it’ll go down.

We’ve seen that liquidation sales start at a lower discount and then increase as time goes on.

As time inches closer to official closing time, prices will likely go down by 10% so they can get rid of their inventory. By Sep. 30 you could see discounts as high as 90%.

Sorry, out-of-towners; you can only shop the Olympia Sports liquidation sales in store.

You’ll be out of luck trying to catch some online Olympia Sports deals. On their website, you’ll see a farewell banner that says, “Everything must go! Closing sale!”

To catch their liquidation sale, you’ll have to go to one of their store locations, and everything you buy from there will be final sale, so no refunds.

The website still has their store locator active, so use that to find an Olympia Sports near you.
