Video games have broken sales records this year, as folks have been staying at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But COVID or no COVID, video game systems are always a hot commodity during the holiday season.

The much-anticipated PlayStation 5 is releasing this holiday season, and Sony is giving existing customers the chance to be the first to preorder the new game console.

Here’s what you need to know:

Enter your PlayStation Online ID to request a PS5 preorder.

Existing PlayStation customers can qualify for a preorder invitation by visiting the preorder page at PlayStation.com.

Once you submit your PlayStation Online ID, keep tabs on your email for a preorder invite.

If you get a preorder invite, respond right away — they expire.

Sony has a limited number of PlayStation 5’s available for preorder, so not everybody who submits will get an invite.

The PlayStation website says preorder invites will be sent “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities.” So if you just set up your PlayStation Online ID, chances are, you’re not going to get the invite.

Selected PlayStation Online IDs will receive an email before preorders start. No word yet when preorders begin, but the PlayStation website says to act quickly.

Preorders will be available for 7 different items, while supplies last.

Quantities will be limited, and preorders are first-come, first-served. The price of the PlayStation 5 and related products hasn’t been announced yet, but industry watchers think the console will be $499 ($399 for the Digital Edition).

Each invited PlayStation customer will be able to preorder the following (while supplies last):

  • 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition (not both)
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2 DualSense charging stations
  • 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2 Media remotes
  • 2 HD Cameras
