If you were unable to register and get 2023 Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets during the presale, it looks like you might be out of luck.

At least, if you were hoping to get tickets on Ticketmaster. The ticket-selling giant announced on Twitter that the general sale for Taylor Swift The Eras Tour, scheduled for Nov. 18 at 10 a.m., has been canceled “due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand.”

These shows were expected to sell out quickly and Taylor even added several new tour dates in select cities to accommodate her fans’ demand, but it still wasn’t enough. Due to the high traffic to the Ticketmaster site along with lack of available tickets, they’ve decided to cancel the general sale completely.

“This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things.” Yep, there’s gonna be some “Bad Blood” with Ticketmaster. We can’t just “Shake it Off”. (Sorry.)

Tickets for all tour dates were scheduled to go on sale to the public Friday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. However, presale tickets for Capital One or Mastercard cardholders went on sale days Nov. 15 – 17. This is why you may have seen a bunch of TikToks featuring T. Swift-fans applying for Capital One cards when the tour was announced. But that wasn’t the only way to get presale access. Fans could also simply become a verified fan with Ticketmaster (which is absolutely free) and preregister for the presale event by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Registered fans received a TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan invitation at some point on Monday, Nov. 14.

Unfortunately, just hours after the presale started on Nov. 15, Ticketmaster saw an unprecedented demand for tickets and the site hit a breaking point. No one yet knows if how many unsold tickets remain and how they will be sold.

How much do Taylor Swift 2023 tour tickets cost?

The tour kicks off March 18, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona, continuing in stadiums across the country for 26 additional shows. Swift wraps up The Eras Tour U.S. on Aug. 5, 2023 in Los Angeles. Opening acts will include Paramore, Haim (personal friends of Swift’s), beabadoobee, and Phoebe Bridgers.

Stadium tour tickets can be significantly more expensive than shows played at smaller venues. So when it comes to Taylor Swift tour tickets in 2023, you can expect to pay a pretty penny for the good seats. But like most concerts, no matter the venue, there are still some less costly seats.

The Eras Tour is part of Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program, which is the very program that offered the early presale. The presale tickets were priced anywhere from $49 to $449. VIP packages ranged anywhere from $199 to $899. Of course, people are reporting tickets already being re-sold for way more than what they were purchased for… to the tune of $28,000, according to some reports.

3.5 million people registered for the presale — the most in Ticketmaster history.

In the “largest registration in history”, roughly 3.5 million people signed up for the Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program in order to shop the Taylor Swift presale.

If you weren’t lucky enough to get tickets through the presale events at Ticketmaster, you can expect to pay hefty markups on secondary sellers like StubHub or VividSeats. Be cautious, tickets are sure to shoot up in price with this news.

For your next event, here’s how to become a verified fan on Ticketmaster for free.

This process is actually easy and quick. I was able to become a verified fan in less than 30 seconds. It’s important to note that signing up doesn’t guarantee you access to presale tickets. You’ll need a Ticketmaster account to sign up, and you’ll have to register within the limited timeframe to qualify. Though the Taylor Swift registration window has passed, here’s how to do it for upcoming shows from your favorite artists:

  • Find the sign up link for Taylor’s tour, where you’ll be taken to the virtual waiting room.
  • You’ll go to the registration page, where you’ll sign in to your Ticketmaster account.
  • You will be able to select your top three choices for concert dates in different locations.
  • Hit submit and you’ll receive a confirmation message as well as an email confirming your verified fan status.

Tickets are already being resold on eBay, but they’ve got BIG markups.

Look, chances are you came to this article because you were hoping to A) Find Taylor Swift tickets, and B) Get them without maxing out your credit card or mortgaging your home. But the resale market is pretty bonkers out there. Tickets have already started popping up on eBay, and we’re seeing individual tickets going for as much as $2,200. It’s ugly out there.

How can you get a Capital One Card now and qualify for a future concert presale?

Even though you could gain access to the T.Swift presale just by becoming a verified fan (which we strongly encourage), TikTok featured fans desperately applying for Capital One cards instead.

Factors impacting qualifications of the Capital One Card:

According to Capital One, they have to give you a decision within 30 days of receiving your application. Of course, if it takes that long, you won’t get approved in time. So your best bet is to apply online for a card and hope for instant approval. Or as stated earlier, get that verified fan status (for free!) to enjoy Taylor Swift tour tickets presale access.

The issuer will take into consideration your credit report, credit history, credit score, and current income. It will also look into any potential debts you may have. If you don’t receive an instant approval, Capital One may feel they need more time to review your application. For example, there might be mistakes on the application, your info needs to be verified, or your credit reports are frozen.

But there is one more crucial reason that your approval decision could be delayed, and that’s that the lender is reviewing a lot of applications.

With so many Swifties applying out of the blue, it’s safe to say Capital One has probably experienced an influx of applications. While we can’t say for certain, this could pose a general delay in approvals for many fans.

Will the Capital One card bring down my credit if I do get it for this sale?

Applying for a new credit card usually does impact your credit score. While credit reporting isn’t an exact science, Forbes reports that applying for a new credit card can decrease your current score by about five points. In most cases, this isn’t enough of a change to deter you from applying for a card.

However, you don’t want to put yourself in a scenario where you are applying for multiple credit cards in a short amount of time. This will impact your credit.

If you get a Capital One card for this Taylor Swift concert sale, it likely wouldn’t bring down your credit more than any other card.

Also, if you recently inquired on your credit for something big like a mortgage, car purchase, or student loan, this additional inquiry may have an even bigger impact on your credit score. In that event, it’s probably not in your best interest to apply for the card, so you may want to weigh the pros and cons.

Consider the interest rate on the Capital One card you’re applying for.

Most credit cards do, in fact, charge interest if you don’t pay the balance off in full every month. However, Capital One and Mastercard (which is also eligible for the presale), offer several cards with 0% introductory APR for a limited time.

These cards include:

  • Venture One: 0% intro APR for 15 months
  • QuickSilver Rewards: 0% intro APR for 15 months
  • SavorOne Rewards for students: 0% intro APR for 15 months
  • Spark 1.5X Miles Select: 0% intro APR for 9 months

There’s always the option to get the Mastercard debit card for the purposes of this sale. It won’t impact your credit (since it’s a debit card), and according to Ticketmaster, it’s still eligible for the presale.

Understand the terms:

If you’re desperate to get tickets, it’s understandable, but it’s also important to understand the Capital One terms. Make sure you’re taking everything into consideration and that you’re ready, willing, and able to use the Capital One credit card responsibly (if you choose to go down that path).

As we mentioned earlier, there is always the option to apply for a Capitol One debit card or Mastercard debit card instead. For anyone who’s had a recent credit inquiry or recently applied for another credit card, the debit card might be the wiser choice.
