If you’re as big a Kroger fan as I am, then you’ve maybe heard about the new Kroger REWARDS Debit Card by now.

Kroger Co. is touting it as both a check card and rewards card, meaning you can pay straight from your credit or debit account and earn points for Kroger-branded purchases, kinda like Target’s RedCard.

Best part? It works online, too.

Read on to learn how the Kroger REWARDs Debit Card works, how you can use it with Kroger Grocery Pickup and other money-saving tips.

Psst! Save on groceries at Kroger by downloading the KCL app!

1. Create an account and apply for the Kroger REWARDS Debit Card online.

The new Kroger REWARDS debit card is a hybrid card that links to your debit or credit account so you can pay for purchases at Kroger stores and earn fuel points and discounts on Kroger-brand products.

It’s different from the Kroger Prepaid Visa Debit Card in that…

  • There are zero annual or monthly fees
  • You don’t have to manually add funds to your card
  • The rewards and benefits work differently (more on that below)

It’s also distinct from the Kroger REWARDS World Mastercard in that the REWARDS debit card can only be used in Kroger Co. stores, which include:

  • Bakers
  • City Market
  • Dillons
  • Food 4 Less
  • Food Co.
  • Fred Meyer
  • Frys
  • Gerbes
  • Harris Teeter
  • King Soopers
  • Jay C Food Store
  • Owen’s Market
  • Pay Less Super Markets
  • QFC
  • Ralphs
  • Smith’s Food and Drug

Getting the card is easy. Just apply online, and create an account if you haven’t.

2. Earn 50% more fuel points on eligible grocery purchases.

When you buy groceries with your Kroger REWARDS debit card, you’ll earn 1.5 fuel points for every dollar spent on your net purchase (before tax).

To benefit from fuel points, you’ll need to spend a minimum of $66 on groceries each month ($100 = 150 fuel points).

Points earned in any month will expire at the end of the month and can only be redeemed at Kroger Fuel Centers.

Your fuel points work like this:

  • 100 fuel points = $0.10 off per gallon per fill-up
  • 1,000 fuel points = $1 off per gallon per fill-up

You can buy a maximum of 35 gallons and redeem a maximum of 1,000 fuel points per fill-up; fuel points can also be redeemed for any grade of gas available.

You can keep track of your fuel points on your receipts, your online account or by downloading the Kroger app.

3. Buy eGift Cards and look out for special promotions to stack fuel points faster.

Right now through March 24, you can earn 4x fuel points when you buy eGift Cards online ($25 = 100 fuel points).

Outside of this special promo, you can normally earn DOUBLE fuel points for buying gift cards, too ($25 = 50 fuel points).

Purchase your eGift Cards online with your Kroger REWARDS debit card and stack an extra 1.5 fuel points per dollar — that’s almost 40 fuel points extra.

4. Get 2% discounts on Quality Brand purchases.

If you spend $50 on Quality Brands, you can save $1 on your next purchase.

The discount is automatically applied and deducted for you, but it may take up to 48 hours to credit to your account, so give yourself some time before ordering groceries again.

PRO TIP: Create a shopping list consisting only of Quality Brand items on the Kroger app so you can rack up steeper discounts on your next curbside pickup order.

5. Stack internet coupons with your discounted purchases to rack up savings.

Kroger lets you combine one internet coupon per item, so increase your savings on your next discounted REWARDS debit card purchase by stacking digital coupons with Quality Brand items.

PRO TIP: When you opt for Kroger Grocery Pickup, you can hand Kroger staff your physical coupons and stack them with digital coupons for an even bigger discount.

6. Scan your Kroger e-receipts with the Fetch Rewards app.

If you’re avoiding shopping the aisles in-person, you can still scan your e-receipts with the Fetch Rewards app.

You can rack up over 1,300 points for your first three receipts (digital or physical) and an additional 2,000 for every successful referral you send out.

Get 3,000 points and redeem it for a $3 digital gift card you can use at your favorite stores (including Target and Amazon).
