Taking care of candles is an important part of enjoying them and getting the most out of their burn time. Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Trim the wick before lighting it to about 1/4 inch. This will help prevent the flame from getting too big and will help the candle burn evenly. When you light a candle for the first time, let it burn long enough for the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the container to prevent tunneling.
It’s also best not to burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating and reduce soot buildup. After each use, remove any debris or wick trimmings from the wax pool to prevent the wick from becoming clogged and the buildup of soot. Then be sure to extinguish the flame with a candle snuffer instead of blowing it out, which can create hot wax splatters and misshape the wick.
By taking these steps, you can enjoy your candles safely and prolong their burn time.
