Cream Cheese Sheet Cake

1 cup plus 2 Tbsp butter, room temperature – $0.62
6 ounces cream cheese, room temperature – $1.12
2 1/4 cups sugar – $0.43
6 eggs – $0.66
3/4 tsp vanilla – $0.01
2 1/4 cups cake flour – $0.36


1 cup sugar – $0.19
1/3 cup evaporated milk – $0.20
1/2 cup butter – $0.50
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips – $0.83

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease an 18″ x 26″ sheet pan and set aside.

2. Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar together in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs one at a time, beating mixture well after each egg is added. Add vanilla and flour and mix well, scraping down sides to incorporate ingredients evenly. Pour into greased pan.

3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely before icing.

4. To make frosting, stir sugar and milk together in a medium saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Cover and cook for 3 minutes (do not stir, but watch the pan to make sure it does not boil over). Stir in butter and chocolate chips until melted. Remove frosting from heat and cool for two minutes. Stir the frosting and spread over cake.
