Two things are certain: Winter weather requires winter clothing, and kids grow.

It’s not easy to find budget-friendly winter clothing for children, and even more challenging? Replacing all those lost mittens, hats and scarves each year!

Go-to stores like Target, Amazon and The Children’s Place are sure to have affordable options. But there are more sites worth exploring to find stylish winter clothing that allows parents to keep up with their growing children without destroying the family budget in the process.

Resale

Rascal's Resale has a large selection of outwear such as coats, sweatshirts, warm pants and hats for under $12. For those shopping for a specific brand or anyone concerned about quality, take heart: You can find name brands like Janie and Jack, Gymboree, Land's End and the Gap. Because they offer flat rate shipping, you won't pay more than $4 for shipping, no matter how much you order or where you live.

Thred Up has tons of outerwear (many items are new with tags still attached) to keep your little one warm this winter (including coats for under $5). Name brands are common here, too. Expect to see Carter's, Levi Strauss, Gymboree and Ralph Lauren, just to name a few. Shipping is currently free on your first order, but it's also free when spending $40 or more.

Easy navigation

Bargain Children’s Clothing lets parents shop by season (there’s an actual tab for it) while saving 20 to 70% off the retail price. I found an adorable hat, mitten and scarf set for under $12. To save even more, don’t miss the Extreme Sale and the $10 and under page! Shipping is a flat rate of $3.95, but watch for free shipping specials to sweeten the deal.

Overstock.com has a large stock of children's outerwear along with a handy children's clothing buying guide to help you make the best choices. The variety and prices on Overstock.com are awesome; I recently scored an entire jacket set that included a coat, scarf and hat for only $28.99. As an added bonus, all orders ship for $2.95 (talk about affordable).

Trendy

Best Dressed Kids offers a wide selection of adorable and colorful winter clothing for newborns up to age 10. Styles are unique and bright, which perfectly matches my 4-year-old's personality! In fact, I found her an adorable leopard print jacket for only $18 (originally $30!) Be sure to check out the sale and clearance section for even further savings. They offer $7 flat rate shipping.

Garnet Hill offers clothing by brands like Ralph Lauren, Primigi and Patagonia. Although their normal prices are a bit high, I shop there because of the clearance and Sale of the Day items. I once found a Ralph Lauren hat and scarf set for my little girl on sale for only $18, normally $30 a piece! Shipping is $6.96 on orders up to $50.

Off the beaten path

Hanna Andersson is an online clothing store inspired by Swedish styles. I found cotton long johns, insanely adorable hats, sweaters, gloves, and leggings all for under $12. The thing I especially love about Hanna Andersson is that it's not just a children's shop. They sell clothing for adults, too! I'm seriously thinking about buying matching outfits for our entire family to make our Christmas portraits more memorable. Shipping is $5.95 when you spend up to $25 and $8.95 when spending up to $50.
