A&W got sued because of their vanilla flavoring.
The plaintiffs who sued A&W said that the labeling of certain A&W Root Beer and Cream Soda Products was misleading and violated consumer protection laws.
They said that although the products claimed to be “Made With Aged Vanilla,” they actually contained an artificial vanilla flavoring called ethyl vanillin. Keurig Dr Pepper denies these allegations but has agreed to settle the case to avoid further litigation.
You’re eligible for the A&W settlement if you bought root beer or cream soda between 2016 and 2023.
Some of that $15 million could be headed your way if you purchased an A&W Root Beer or Cream Soda Product that had the statement “Made with Aged Vanilla” printed on its label between Feb. 7, 2016, and June 2, 2023.
Get paid $5.50 without proof, up to $25 with proof in the A&W settlement.
If the settlement is approved by the court during the final hearing on Sept. 18, 2023, and after any potential appeals are resolved, class members will receive refunds based on whether they provide proof of purchase or not.
Those without proof of purchase will receive $5.50 per household, while those with proof can get at least $5.50, plus additional compensation based on the number of units they purchased — up to a maximum of $25.00 per household. Each household can make only one claim, and the total settlement amount is capped at $15 million, so individual payments may be reduced proportionately if the cap is exceeded.
File a claim by Oct. 18, 2023, to be included in the A&W settlement.
To receive a refund, you must submit a claim form online, with or without proof of purchase, by the deadline of Oct. 18, 2023. Remember that you must be a Settlement Class Member to make a claim, and recovery is limited to one claim per household, regardless of how many persons live at your address.
