Petco has been rolling out free in-store events all spring, and there's a lot on the calendar throughout May. From Easter Bunny photos to Tax Day treats and Mother's Day photo ops, there are plenty of chances to score freebie deals without spending a dime — and a few deals worth hitting up if you're shopping there anyway.

Cat owners have two back-to-back freebies in April and May: The Meow Market on April 18 - 19 has free food samples, and the Blue Buffalo tasting on May 2 has free samples of Tastefuls entrees.

Free puppy playtime every Saturday is a recurring freebie each month: It's 1 - 1:30 p.m. for pups 8 weeks to 6-months-old. Bring proof of vaccinations and that's it.
April Events
April 4: Free Easter Bunny Photos (2 - 4 p.m.)
This one's new for 2026 — Petco didn't offer free Easter Bunny photos last year, so we're excited to see it on the calendar. Stop by between 2 - 4 p.m. on April 4 for a free photo with the Easter Bunny.
No purchase or membership is required. Just show up during the event window at a participating store. If you don't live near a Petco, Bass Pro and Cabela's also offer free Easter Bunny photos and allow pets too.
April 4: Easter Egg Hunt
Starting at 2 p.m., Petco is hosting an Easter egg hunt where your dog gets to sniff out a hidden egg and win a free treat. This one is available only while supplies last, so arriving early is a good call.
April 11: Adopt a Cutie Event
On April 11 (times vary by store), Petco is hosting an Adopt a Cutie event where you can meet and cuddle with dogs and cats up for adoption from local rescue groups. Even if you're not ready to adopt, it's a great excuse to stop in.
April 15: Free Treat From the Treat Bar on Tax Day
April 15 is Tax Day, and Petco is giving out a free "treat return" from the treat bar for dogs all day, in-store. No membership is required, and no actual tax return is needed either.
April 18 - 19: Free Samples and a Free Tote at the Meow Market
On April 18 and 19 from 2 - 4 p.m., Petco is hosting a Meow Market where your cat can score free food samples. Spend $50 or more, and you'll also get a free tote bag — that offer is valid all day, not just during the event window.
April 25: Meet the Critters Event
On April 25, Petco is hosting a kid-friendly Meet the Critters event where you can get up close with leopard geckos. Times vary by store, so check your local Petco before heading out.
May Events
May 2: Free Cat Food Samples at Tastefuls Tasting Event (2 - 4 p.m.)
On May 2 from 2 - 4 p.m., Petco is offering free samples of Blue Buffalo's Tastefuls cat food entrees. If your cat is picky or you've been curious about switching foods, this is a low-commitment way to test it out.
May 2 and May 9: Mother's Day Photo Op (2 - 4 p.m.)
With Mother's Day falling on May 10 this year, Petco is celebrating pet moms the two Saturdays leading up to it. Stop by from 2 - 4 p.m. on May 2 or May 9 for a photo op with your pet. Based on past Petco photo events, expect a decorative backdrop and possibly some free goodies.
Every Saturday: Free Puppy Playtime Event (1 - 1:30 p.m)
As confirmed on Petco's website, every Saturday from 1 - 1:30 p.m., Petco hosts free puppy playtime for puppies between 8 weeks and 6-months-old. It's basically a chance for your puppy to run around, meet other pups, and (let's be real) for you to take tons of photos.
You do need to bring paper proof of vaccinations, but no purchase is required, and you don't need to be a Petco rewards member.
