Where can I find the best printer Prime Day deals in 2023?

We anticipate fall Prime Day to run Oct. 10 – 11. If you’re able to wait until Black Friday, you can save on Black Friday at Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and Office Depot. In the past, we’ve seen the best deal on Canon printers, like a Canon Pixma, for just $30 at Walmart (though it was just about a 20% off deal). On Black Friday 2022, a Canon Pixma was a whopping 50% off at Target.
You can count on the Amazon Prime Day sale to also have some good deals on tech, including sales on printers. In July 2023, deals started on July 11 and ended at midnight PT on July 12. Target, Walmart, and Office Depot had competitor sales too, though Amazon typically had the best price during this time.

What do I look for when buying a printer?

You’ll find two main types of printers available: Inkjet and color laser. Inkjet printers are better for quality photos, whereas laser printers are better for everyday needs, like printing anything from charts and graphs to homework assignments. Inkjet printers are generally cheaper than laser printers but cost more over time if you use them a lot. They’re also a lot slower than color laser printers.
You’ll also notice a lot of multifunction printers in your search, or “all-in-one” printers, which usually means the printer is wireless with scanning, copying, and faxing capabilities.
So what should you buy? If you need a household workhorse, go for a laser printer — the toner won’t dry up over time (unlike inkjet), and the cost per page is also cheaper. If you care more about picture quality and will print often, then an inkjet is your best bet.
You can save on refills, too.
Whether you have your eye on an inkjet printer or a laser one, you’ll need to get replacement cartridges as you use the printer. Some people like to head over to Amazon and use Subscribe and Save to make sure they get refills on a regular schedule. If the idea of auto-ship isn’t your cup of tea, you can always make a calendar event to just order refills as you go along.
Either way, make sure that you store all cartridges in a cool, dry, and dark place to preserve their quality. It is also important to look at the expiration dates on inkjet cartridges, as the ink can lose quality over time.
