Yes and no; buying gas at Costco requires a valid membership. However, you can buy gas at Costco using a Costco Shop card; just have a member buy one for you up to the max of $1,000.

For a 12-gallon gas tank, it would take 25 – 34 fill-ups at Costco to save $60 or 50 – 67 fill-ups to pay for a $120 executive membership.

Does Costco give 2% cash back on gas?

While Costco itself doesn’t automatically offer cash back when you purchase gas, you can apply to their credit card.
The Costco Visa card gives you 4% cash back on gas, 3% cash back on restaurants and travel, 2% on all other purchases from Costco, and 1% cash back on all other purchases.
With no annual fees, Costco’s Visa offers flexibility and high rewards points for gas. Of course, our figures would vary, but say your small to a midsize car has a 12-gallon gas tank and the gas price is $3.29 a gallon. If you fill up your tank once a week using Costco’s credit card, at the end of the year, you will have spent $2,052.96.
Use Costco’s 4% cash-back credit card to pay at the pump, and you’ll earn over $80 in cash back, which covers the $60 membership with $20 to spare.

Yes, Costco gas is typically cheaper than many other brands. According to Consumer Reports, the national average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.90. How to save more on Costco gas:

In addition to the discount at the pump, there are a few ways you can save more. Use the Costco Visa to save an extra 4%, and fill up during the week between 10 – 11 a.m. to avoid having to waste gas waiting to fill during busier times, like weekends.
Like gas prices in general, Costco prices can fluctuate. To make sure you get the best price, check the current gas price at your warehouse or other local Costco locations online before you go. Sign in to your Costco account and tap Locations. Click any location to instantly view their gas price.
Is Costco Gas High Quality?

Because Costco gas is cheap, you might assume that it’s low quality gas. According to their FAQ page, that’s not the case. Costco deposits control additives into their gasoline and diesel to ensure only the highest quality gas.
They also have multiple quality control points their gas and diesel fuel go through that allow them to inspect the gas and discard any that does not meet their standards.
Where Does Costco Buy Their Fuel From?
According to their website, Costco buys their fuel from major refineries and distributors in areas local to the Costco stores. That said, all their fuel is guaranteed to be of the highest quality because of the checkpoints it goes through during the inspection process.
