1. Create a makeshift frisbee golf course in your backyard for $6.
A frisbee golf set will cost you $25 or more, and I know that’s not gonna work for you. So put together a full set for just a few bucks and some laundry baskets you have around your house. Don’t have enough? Have guests BYOB (Basket!) or pick up a few at Dollar Tree. It’s usually recommended to have anywhere from three to six frisbees on hand to play.
Final price: $6
PRO TIP: Frisbee golf “holes” are usually raised, so if you really want to go above and beyond, grab some tomato cages from Walmart for two bucks each.
2. Deck out your party with festive decor for $10.
If you’re looking to add to your party decor without breaking the bank, swing by Dollar Tree. They’ve got pretty much everything you need to decorate your shindig, and how much you need is totally up to you.
Here’s what they had at my local Dollar Tree, all U.S. flag themed:
- Paper lanterns
- Uncle Sam hat decorations
- Wind socks
- Patriotic teddy bear decorations
- Fairy Wings
- Wind spirals
Final price: $8 and up
3. Mix boozy summer drinks for just $14.
Your guests will appreciate this as much as your wallet will. Outside of the alcohol itself, you can set yourself up for some summery cocktails at Dollar Tree. To make Arnold Palmers with a splash of vodka, stop at the Dollar Tree first and grab these:
- Ice cube tray
- Summer glasses X 10
- Arizona Arnold Palmers
- Summer cocktail stirrers
Final price: $14
4. Have the kids play a game of clothespin tag for just a dollar.
What, you’ve never heard of clothespin tag before? OK, neither had I until I read a few blogs. Basically, everyone starts with a clothespin on the back of their shirt. The goal is to grab as many as possible, and the player with the most clothespins at the end wins.
Just pick up a pack of 36 clothespins at Dollar Tree.
Final price: $1
PRO TIP: If you want to add a little more flair, throw in some crafts like stickers or paints so the kids can design their own clothespins.
5. Set up a summer coloring station for the kiddos for a dollar each.
If you’re expecting younger guests, you should set them up for a fun activity on the cheap. Luckily, Dollar Tree is offering these summer-themed coloring kits with markers included. Just buy a kit for every kid you expect to attend.
Final price: $10
6. Play some nighttime ring toss for $10.
Just because the sun goes down doesn’t mean your summer party fun is over. Grab two 8-packs of glow stick bracelets and eight larger light-colored soda bottles. Drop straightened out glow stick bracelets in eight of the soda bottles and wrap the other eight into bracelets.
Boom! You’ve got a ring toss game you can play all night long.
Final price: $10
7. Grab materials for water pong at Dollar Tree for $3.
This one is a classic grown-up party game with beer, but if you use water instead, everyone can play. Just set up a table outside, grab some plastic cups, a 6-pack of ping pong balls, and a plastic table cover.
Final price: $3
8. Create a makeshift obstacle course for $12.
With this idea, your imagination is the only thing holding you back. You can use whatever you want for obstacles, like a sidewalk chalk hopscotch area, a Hula-Hoop station, pool noodle rings you need to step through, or glow sticks to make a full nighttime obstacle course.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pool noodles X 8
- Glow sticks
Final price: $12
9. Set up a water balloon spoon race for two bucks.
Remember those old egg and spoon races growing up? Do a version in your backyard that’s less hassle (and much easier to clean up). All you need to pick up is some latex balloons and a pack of spoons. Cheap, easy, and fun.
Final price: $2
10. Split into teams for a game of capture the flag for just two dollars.
If you’re looking for a simple game for only two bucks, definitely consider setting up a game of capture the flag. The fun thing about choosing Dollar Tree is you can choose whatever you want to use as the flag. Actual flags? Pinwheels? Plastic flamingos? Totally up to you.
Final price: $2
