After months of unsuccessfully searching for a buyer, Jenny Craig is closing. The company emailed employees on Tuesday, May 2 with news that the entire operation will close for good this week. All employees will be let go by Friday, May 5. They join a growing list of stores and businesses experiencing closures and liquidation sales. Just look at Bed Bath and Beyond and Buy Buy Baby as examples. This decision not only affects all the locations — but the online sales, too. The website will be reportedly shut down and there will be no way to order Jenny Craig meals after Friday.

The closure is urgent. So urgent, in fact, that Jenny Craig locations are reportedly calling current customers offering free food before their doors shutter completely. In some cases, office furniture and equipment are also up for grabs.

The weight loss business category is one that has long been struggling, with companies like WW International (formerly known as Weight Watchers) looking for new ways to rake in revenue. For example, WW acquired telehealth platform Sequence in March 2023. This allows them the ability to offer customers access to prescription injectables like Ozempic. It’s a diabetes medication which has an off-label use for weight loss.
