With the winter holidays long gone, your Elf on the Shelf has likely retired to the depths of a Christmas decoration bin, hibernating for the year ahead. While they get some much-needed rest, parents will not, thanks to the new Peep on a Perch. That’s right. It’s Easter’s answer to Elf on a Shelf, and it’s coming in hot. Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be more Peeps merch, they spring this one on us. (Spring, Easter, get it? Oh, never mind).

It’s too early to tell if Peep on a Perch will become just as iconic as Elf on the Shelf (which has, surprisingly, only existed since 2005), but the set is pretty fun. Of course if you aren’t too jazzed about coming up with creative things to do with your Peep, you can always repurpose some Elf on the Shelf ideas. Just make them Easter-themed. We’ll pull a few of those for you below.

Peep on a Perch is a plush Peep chick.

A Peep on a Perch book and plush peep toy

You can find Peeps in all different shapes and sizes these days. But for the purposes of Peep on a Perch, the Peep in question is a sunny yellow plush chick. Dubbed a “sweet Easter tradition,” Much like Elf on the Shelf, the Peep is meant to look after kids during Lent (or the days leading up to Easter), hoping to catch them in the act of kindness.

The gift set comes with the 4-inch plush Peep chick and a hardcover book that tells the story of Peep on a Perch.

Interestingly, Amazon has the release date of Peep on a Perch as 2018, which means this little guy has been perched for a whole five years without gaining any major media recognition. Who knew?

Currently, the set costs $24.95 at Barnes & Noble.

This set is a hot item! The only way to buy it on Amazon is through third-party sellers, with prices up to over $40. Worse, most of the offers don’t include free shipping.

You can forget shopping Walmart and Target as well. Both show the Peep on a Perch set, is out of stock.

With those three retailers out of stock, you can order Peep on a Perch directly from Peeps themselves for $24.95. Unfortunately, their shipping cost varies. The cheapest shipping option is Ground at a $10.55. So you’d be paying about half the set’s price to receive the thing as you would to buy it. Not loving that idea.

However, we found Barnes & Noble has the set available online and in store for $24.95. They offer free shipping on orders $40 or more.

And if you’re interested in how Peep on a Perch stacks up against Elf on the Shelf pricewise, it’s pretty close. Peeps says the suggested retail price on their gift set is $24.95. On Amazon, Elf on the Shelf retails for $24.68. That set also comes with the elf and a book telling their story.

Get playful with Peep on a Perch.

If you get your hands on one of these sets, feel free to revisit the creative well you used for Elf on the Shelf ideas. For example, maybe the Peep tries to camouflage themselves in a bowl full of edible Peeps. Or maybe your kids find the Peep looking for a pantry snack. Heck, maybe you find the Peep chick “laying an egg” in the fridge. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel here. Go with what you know. Your kids will get a kick out of it either way.
