Toys”R”Us sales began nationwide this morning–a day later than originally planned. A U.S. bankruptcy court judge did not give final sign-off on the liquidation plan until yesterday afternoon.
Stores opened this morning to Black Friday-like crowds clamoring to shop the sales. Krazy Coupon Lady was there to suss out whether the sales are worth shopping, and so far the verdict is a resounding “no.”

Initial liquidation sales are underwhelming.

Discounts top out at 30%, with most items in store priced at 10% off or less.
Diapers aren’t on sale. . . at all.

Coupons are no longer accepted.

Effective March 23, coupons are no longer accepted. That includes mailer coupons, loyalty club coupons and birthday coupons.
And we now have an official end date for gift card redemptions of April 21, 2018.
Even after going-out-of-business sales, prices are mostly better elsewhere.

Make sure to compare prices from Amazon, Target and Walmart before you make any Toys”R”Us purchase.

10% off American Girl may be the best deal in the store.

For a brand that goes on sale as rarely as AG, 10% off is actually not a bad deal.
Sale prices are not consistent nationwide–at one store we shopped at, AG and LEGO were both still regular price.

Liquidation sales are in-store only.

Going-out-of-business sales are not happening at ToysRUs.com or BabiesRUs.com. The chains are still trying to find a buyer for the online business, and until that is finalized, sales will remain in-store only.
You can shop now, but only if you’re willing to compare prices.

Use three apps to be certain you’re getting the best prices. Each has a barcode scan price lookup feature to price compare.

Sales prices are expected to drop slowly, but not for two more weeks.

Based on what we’re seeing from stores whose closures were announced months ago, who began liquidation at the beginning of the year, there are plenty more sales to come–up to 50% off many items. And new markdowns frequency is approximately every two weeks.
