Fast-fashion retailer PacSun (aka Pacific Sunwear of California) offers affordable prices on everything from shirts and loungewear to pants and swimsuits. Luckily, they also have a good return policy for most of their items. While the PacSun return policy is generally pretty similar to most store return policies, it’s still important to know the ins and outs to make sure you get your money back if you need to take something back.

Can you make a PacSun return without a receipt? Are there some items they won’t refund you for? Does PacSun offer exchanges? I combed through the PacSun return policy so you don’t have to, and I’ll explain the most important things you need to know right here.

Before You Start a PacSun Return:

You have 30 days to return an item you bought in store at PacSun for a refund.

Similar to other standard return policies, you have 30 days from the day you bought an item in store at PacSun to return it for a refund. To return your item, just bring it back to a PacSun store near you. Be sure to have your receipt on hand and you’ll get a refund back to your original payment method. Make sure the item you are returning still has the tags attached.

You have 30 days to return an item you bought online at PacSun for a refund.

If you bought an item online from PacSun, you have 30 days from the ship date to return it for a refund. This means that when you get the email that your order has shipped, you have 30 days to return it from that day. To return the item, it has to be unworn with the tags still attached. You can either return the item by mail or in store.

You must have your PacSun receipt or invoice to get a refund.

To get a full refund to your original payment method, you must have your PacSun receipt or online invoice when you return the item. If you bought something in store, be sure to hold on to your receipt. If you order something online at PacSun, your package will include a printed invoice. You cannot get a refund back to your original payment method if you don’t have a receipt. You will instead get a PacSun gift card for the same amount.

Items must be in their original sellable condition to get a full refund at PacSun.

To get a full refund for something you return at PacSun, the item must be in its original sellable condition. This means it cannot be worn, washed, or otherwise used. This is standard across most return policies, so just make sure the items you want to return are in resellable condition. If it looks like you wore or washed something, PacSun will not accept it and you won’t get your money back.

The PacSun holiday return policy is different from the general return policy.

Anything you purchase at PacSun between Nov. 1 and Dec. 14 may be returned for a full refund until Jan. 15 of the following year. Just keep in mind that you must have your receipt or invoice and the items can’t be worn or washed.

How to Return PacSun Items:

Return items in store.

If you bought something at PacSun either in store or online, you can return it to any PacSun location. To return something, just take it to your closest store and tell an employee you need to make a return. Make sure you have the receipt or online invoice and that the item is still in sellable condition.

Return items by mail.

If you bought something online at PacSun, you can return it through the mail. (Note: you cannot return items you bought in store through the mail. You have to return the items to a PacSun store instead.) You have 30 days from the item’s ship date to return it by mail. If you try to send something back to PacSun after 30 days, you’ll only receive store credit.

Here’s how to return something by mail to PacSun:

  1. Go to the “Order Locator” on PacSun.com.
  2. Type in your order number, the email address you used when buying the item, and your ZIP code.
  3. Choose which items you want to return and why.
  4. Print out the shipping label you receive by email, stick it onto a package, and take your return order to a USPS location.

Returning things by mail will cost you $7.

If you return something to PacSun through the mail, they’ll charge you a return shipping and handling fee of $7. This gets deducted from your refund or store credit amount. Just keep this in mind before you return something through the mail. If you have a local PacSun store by you, it’s free to return things there.

Related: PacSun isn’t the only retailer with a return shipping fee. We found a bunch of other stores that now charge for returns.

Exceptions to the PacSun Return Policy:

Things you buy in store can’t get returned online.

If you bought something in a physical PacSun store, you cannot return it by mail. Instead, you have to return it at a PacSun store. What’s nice about this is that you won’t get charged the $7 shipping and handling fee.

You need to have your receipt or invoice to return something — or you won’t get a refund.

To get a refund to your original payment method, you must have your receipt or invoice. If you don’t have proof of purchase, PacSun will give you a refund in the form of store credit.

TIP: If you don’t have your receipt, you’ll be asked to produce a valid form of identification, so be sure to have your ID on you.

Swimwear and bras need their original tags attached.

To return a swimsuit, make sure the original tags are intact and the sanitary sticker is still in place. If the tags and sanitary pads are missing, PacSun won’t accept the return. This rule applies to undergarments like bras or sports bras, too. You can never return women’s underwear to PacSun, though.

Earrings, face masks, and women’s underwear can’t get returned.

Even if the tags are still attached and you have a receipt, you cannot return pierced jewelry, protective face masks, or women’s underwear. Be sure that you really want these items before you buy them.

FOG (Fear of God) Essentials, PS Reserve, Alliance Entertainment items, and gift bags are final sale.

If you buy any of the following brands at PacSun, you cannot return them — ever:

You cannot exchange things at PacSun.

If you bought something and want to exchange it for a different item, you have to return the item for a refund first, then buy the new item. You cannot exchange merchandise for other merchandise at PacSun.

What to Know About PacSun Refunds:

You’ll get your refund within three to five days if you return an item in the store.

If you return something to a PacSun store, you can expect to see the refund on your card within three to five days. If you don’t see the refund within five days, reach out to customer service for help.

It takes over 20 days to get a refund if you return something via mail.

If you shipped something back to PacSun, it’ll take about three weeks for your refund to hit your original payment method. Allow up to 20 business days for your return to get processed. Once they process your refund, you’ll get an email. From there, it might take an additional three to five business days for the refund to hit your account.
