Apple cider vinegar is more than a cooking ingredient. It’s pretty much an all-purpose solution that can replace many of your expensive name-brand products. Check out what it can do for your beauty and health!

1. Regulate the pH of skin.

Combine 1 cup apple cider vinegar with 1 cup cold water in a plastic bottle (I use recycled baby food jars) and apply with a cotton ball morning and night in lieu of a toner, astringent, or age spot remover.


2. Clean and condition hair.

Use apple cider vinegar as a shampoo/conditioner replacement. Combine 4-5 tablespoons baking soda with 1 part apple cider vinegar and 1 part water for a clarifying and chemical-free shampoo. Rinse and then apply 1 cup apple cider vinegar as a conditioning rinse. If you have a difficult time with the smell in the shower, add essential oils to your mixes. Some of my favorites are citrus and lavender.


3. Get a whiter grin.

Gargle two parts water with one part apple cider vinegar for one minute every morning. The vinegar removes stains and kills bacteria in your mouth and gums.

Note: Avoid doing this too often—it can erode tooth enamel if used too frequently.

4. Detox your body and kidneys.

If you’re looking for a healthy detox, look no further than apple cider vinegar, which helps maintain a healthy alkaline pH level. Combine 1 ½ cups apple cider vinegar with one gallon of water and drink throughout the course of a day for an overall body and kidney detoxification. You can repeat this process for up to three days, but one to two days is generally sufficient.

5. Reduce the swelling on hands and feet.

Rubbing apple cider vinegar onto swollen hands or feet or soaking a towel in vinegar to create a wrap reduces swelling. It’s a wonderful thing to have during pregnancy!

6. Relieve a sunburn.

Diluting 1-2 cups of apple cider vinegar in a warm bath after excessive sun exposure—that may have yielded a sunburn—relieves symptoms, balances your skin’s pH levels, and lessens the duration of a burn.

7. Lose weight.

Have a few extra stubborn pounds you need to shed? Try adding a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to every 8 oz. glass of water you drink throughout the day. Apple cider vinegar blocks the digestion of starch, preventing your blood sugar level from increasing. Since it keep sugar levels stable, you’re less likely to crash and have cravings. If you maintain the daily intake of 64 oz. of water, you will start to see the pounds shed fast!

8. Soothe a sore throat.

Drink an apple cider vinegar cocktail that includes warm water, apple cider vinegar, and honey. Apple cider vinegar also contains health boosters (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron) that rocket you into higher gear when you're under the weather. In addition, apple cider vinegar can help you clear your sinuses by killing germs and thinning mucus. Just sip ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with ¼ cup of warm water.


9. Stop itching.

Apple cider vinegar can help your skin stop itching if you've been bitten by a bug, come in contact with poison ivy, or been stung by a jellyfish. Just apply it directly on your itchy area for an "Ah" moment of relief.

10. Get rid of toe fungus.

Since apple cider vinegar is perfectly acidic, it kills the bacteria that causes toe fungus without hurting the nails and skin surrounding it. Soak infected toes in a foot bath that is equal parts apple cider vinegar and water for about 30 minutes. Rinse and repeat daily until the fungus disappears.
