One of the best ways to save money at Walgreens is to take advantage of their wonderful  Walgreens Balance Rewards Program. Shoppers earn Balance Rewards Points by purchasing select items each week. These points can later be redeemed for in-store credit dollars, ultimately leading to bigger savings!

Steps with Balance Rewards

Buying products at Walgreens isn’t the only way to earn points, though! Walgreens has a “Steps with Balance Rewards” program that allows users to earn points by being physically active and healthy! Earn points every time you track certain activities, add a weigh-in, or enter a blood pressure or glucose reading. Read on to find out how you can be rewarded for staying active.



Earn 20 Balance Rewards Points:

  • For each mile of walking, running or cycling
  • Each time you add a weigh-in
  • Each time you record a blood pressure or blood glucose reading.

How to track activities and goals

You must have a Walgreens Balance Rewards account to earn points. If you’re not a Balance Rewards member, simply sign up at any Walgreens store or online for free! Read the full Balance Rewards Program details here.

To take advantage of the Steps program, you must also have a account. Here’s how to create one and enter the Steps Dashboard:


1. Visit and sign in or register for an account.


2. Click on the blue “Steps Dashboard” button to get to the Steps with Balance Rewards page.

3. Click the blue “Continue” button under the “New to Steps with Balance Rewards” heading.

4. Fill out your account information, click “Submit” and confirm.

5. Add activities and goals on your Steps Dashboard page!

Adding activities

Add activities, weigh-ins and readings by clicking the “+ Add Activity” button on the right-hand side of the Fitness, Weight, Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, Sleep History and Pulse Oxygen pages. (Note: You won’t earn points for logging sleep history or pulse oxygen.) I sometimes forget to add my activities right away, but luckily I’m able to input an activity seven days later without my whole program messing up. Points typically appear in your account immediately, but they may take up to 48 hours.

Setting fitness and weight goals

I love how you can also add fitness and weight goals, and the first time you add a goal, you’ll earn 250 points! Goals can be added by clicking on the “+” button beneath an activity. For fitness, set a goal for walking and/or running as well as the frequency for how many days per week you'd like to be active. For weight, simply indicate your starting and target weights. You’re able to have up to four goals at one time: a walking goal, a running goal, an activity-frequency goal and a weight goal. Keep in mind that you can only earn the 250 Balance Rewards Points the first time you add a goal.

Note: You aren’t able to earn more than 1,000 combined points each month for logging activities and weight. Stay dedicated, but don’t overdo it!

Earning points is easier than you think

Here’s how easy it is to earn points. The average person takes about 15 minutes to walk one mile and only 10 minutes to run one. Take a look at how many points you can earn in a year if you walk for 30 minutes a day, five days a week, or run for 20 minutes a day, five days a week. Every mile helps your health and every dollar assists in your savings!

Use the Walgreens mobile app to track activities and goals


For even more convenience, download the Walgreens app to track activities and set goals on the go! The Walgreens app has a bunch of fun features that keep you entertained and motivated. You can also use it to look at the weekly ad, clip digital “Paperless Coupons,” find a store, create a shopping list, and view your Balance Rewards activity. Plus, use the app to track activities, weigh-ins and goals.

Track your progress on the app

Track your progress wherever you go! When you open the Walgreens app, click on the “Steps” icon (blue person walking). Then, click the green “+ Activity” button at the bottom to input an activity or weigh-in. To view your activity history, simply select the “Activity” button on the bottom right-hand corner.

See your rewards

It’s always exciting to see how much money you’ve earned, and now you can obsessively track earnings anywhere if you want. To see how many points you have in your Balance Rewards account, go back to the Walgreens app homepage and click on the red “Rewards” icon. Select “Points” or “Activity” at the bottom to see your total available points and all activity, both in-store and through the Steps program.

Other helpful apps and devices

If you walk or run on a treadmill, the treadmill will keep track of your distance in miles so that you can track those miles through the program. If, however, you like to walk or run outside, you may find yourself in need of a pedometer or a pedometer app. There are a number of free pedometer apps available, including the Runtastic app. (Click here to read about Runtastic and four other free fitness apps!)
