Listen, the dishwasher detergent that you use actually matters. Sure, you can rely on your dishwasher for its heavy-duty rinsing power, but it takes a good dishwasher cleaner and detergent to break down food and grease.

I’ve heard a lot about Lemi Shine and always see it at my local Target and Walmart. Beyond that, I’ve read pretty solid reviews online but noticed that it’s not the cheapest brand out there. For example, the Lemi Shine dishwasher cleaner costs $7.97 for four uses. So while that’s not crazy expensive, it does cost $1-$2 more than other popular brands.

Luckily, Lemi Shine has some great detergent deals going on right now that make it cost as low as its competitors. You can save up to 40%, bringing down the price for both products to $5. But as a firm believer in quality over quantity, I’m always super curious about certain products that cost more than their competitors. I mean, what exactly makes an $8 detergent better than its cheaper rivals?

Well, I did a little test to find out. For more savings tips, text DEALS to 57299.

The Lemi Shine dishwasher cleaner costs $2 per use, while the detergent costs $0.28 per load.

Lemishine DIshwasher detergent

Let’s break down the cost. You always, always, always want to calculate the cost per load when it comes to detergent because detergent comes in liquid, powder, or pod form. Looking at cost per load (or dividing the total price by load) will give us an even playing field every time.

When we look at the 30-count pack of Lemi Shine dishwasher detergent, we get a total of $0.28 per load. This is before coupons, which we’ll talk about below.

Lemi Shine detergent costs more than your everyday Cascade ($0.20 per load). Why is that? Well, let’s take a look at the ingredients. Lemi Shine uses high-qualit natural ingredients, like citric acid, essential oils, and enzymes. They do this to keep their products safe and non-toxic.

The brand also has a strong reputation for its quality and effectiveness. Plus, they put a lot of effort into their marketing and packaging, which can increase the cost of their products.

I put the Lemi Shine dishwasher cleaner and detergent to the test and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

Applying the lemishine booster product into the dishwasher

I tend to use quite a lot of oil in a lot of my cooking and eat a lot of fatty meats and fermented foods, like kimchi, which loves to just grab onto my plates and utensils. Rice is also a big part of my diet, and the little suckers get trapped easily in the crevices of my forks — even after a usual wash cycle.

With this in mind, I had high expectations for Lemi Shine’s dishwasher detergent. If it’s going to cost me $0.28 per load, I hope it’ll give me better results than my regular detergent. And it did.

My plates and glasses, specifically, were shinier than usual. I also really loved that there was no weird dishwasher scent that I’d normally get with my regular detergent, and, my utensils came out nice and clean. Lo and behold, there were no rice particles stuck in my forks. Now that’s rare for me!

As for the Lemi Shine dishwasher cleaner, I was even more amazed. What really got me was that there was no strong odor coming from the dishwasher. This one’s a biggie for me, as I live in a small apartment where one bad smell can take over the entire space. My regular detergent often leaves a strong smell once I start running a cycle, but Lemi Shine did no such thing. If anything, I got a gentle whiff of citrus that smelled pleasant and clean.

So is Lemi Shine dishwasher cleaner and detergent worth it?

Here at the Krazy Coupon Lady, cost and value are what we focus on in order to determine whether or not something’s worth the hype. And we think when you use coupons and rebates, Lemi Shine is definitely worth it.

The dishwasher cleaner ($7.97, Walmart) comes in a pack of four and costs $2 per use. But when you submit the $3.19 Ibotta credit at Walmart, you can save 40% on it. That brings the price down to $4.78 and $1.20 per use. Target shoppers can get the same 40% discount found in the Target app. Plus, you can even use your Target RedCard to save an extra 5% on top of that, so essentially, if you clean your dishwasher every month, you’re paying less than $5 for four months’ of washes.

Let’s also take a look at the dishwasher detergent ($8.49, Walmart). It costs $0.28 per load, and you get 30 pacs, which sets you up for the whole month. When you use Ibotta rebates or the coupon in your Target app, you can save 40%, bringing the price down to $5.08, which isn’t bad for a month’s worth of daily dishwashing.
