The first time I saw Elf was in the theater when it came out in the winter of 2003. The second time I saw Elf was a week later — at the same theater. It’s one of my favorite Christmas movies. And believe me, I watch it every year at the holidays. Of course, with so many streaming services to choose from now, I have to figure out where to stream Elf for free.
For Elf newbies, the movie stars Will Ferrell as a North Pole elf who visits New York City to reconnect with his father. Along the way, he makes friends with his father’s family. Oh, and he accidentally gets hired at a department store. Then there’s that part where he gets hit by a taxi. But I digress; Elf’s PG rating makes it a fun watch for the whole family with plenty of laughs and Christmas magic.

You’ll find Elf to stream free on HBO Max or with the HBO Max app. Unfortunately, HBO Max nixed their free trial back in 2020. Unfortunately, Elf is not part of Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas. However, check AMC, which seems to be airing Elf pretty consistently this month. Elf will also be aired on Sky Cinema’s dedicated Christmas channel if you want to sign up.
