I recently came across a great website called bookscouter.com. Book Scouter is a one-stop spot for getting price quotes to sell nonfiction and/or text books. Best of all, there is no registration or user fee required.  Simply enter the ISBN number of the book you'd like to sell. The website searches over 40 different websites! Within seconds, a list of companies and their buyback prices are presented. Prices vary widely. For example: Human Physiology (ISBN 0321769708) prices are listed from $77.16 at fairbooks.com down to $9.50 at recycleabook.com. Prices are determined by anticipated demand.

Once you decide which company you are going with, click their corresponding “sell here” tab. An official buyback price will be quoted and is valid for a certain amount of days. Most companies offer free shipping and different payment methods such as PayPal, store credit or check.

I chose to go with Chegg.com for my sale because I am familiar with them. The price quote was not the highest or lowest on the list of companies buying but was one and a half times more than the University book store! Plus, UPS shipping was free!

All I had to do was:

  1. Print the packing slip and shipping label.
  2. Package the book.
  3. Drop off at my nearest UPS location.

Within 3 days I had the quoted buyback amount deposited in my PayPal account.  The process was super easy. I loved that the list presented all the information I needed in order to make an informed decision. I felt like I got a great price for my book without all the hassle of having to check every website individually. I will definitely use this site in the future.
