Top shoe brands can be expensive, but if you’re a shoe lover, you know they’re worth it.

Even so, I’ve found the price tag on some brands (looking at you, Frye!) can talk me out of a pair of shoes faster than I can say “shoe addiction.”

Until I figured out how to save 50-60% and buy my shoes guilt-free. Here’s how to do it:

1. Buy Nike running shoes at Famous Footwear in April, July or December.

Famous Footwear offers BOGO 50% off deals in April, July and December. You can get Nike runners for as low as $27.50 each (regularly $59.99-$84.99).

Sign up for Famous Footwear emails and get a $5-off-$25 coupon. Next, look for clearance Nike running shoes with up to 42% markdowns (tag will indicate the sale price).

Then, plan to buy two pairs to take advantage of the BOGO 50% off sale, and you could ring up around $27.50 per pair after you apply the coupon.

Otherwise, the Nike Factory Store is a good bet. Walk straight to the Hash Wall (clearance section) and don’t settle for anything less than 50% off retail price.

2. Look for Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars at 6pm.com for up to 70% off.

Your best bet for a great deal on Converse Chuck Taylors at any point in the year is 6pm.

6pm is an online store and a sister site of Zappos (owned by Amazon). It’s a great place to save loads of cash on designer brands.

Since price points vary between women’s, men’s and children’s shoes, aim to save 60-70% overall.

Buy women’s Chuck Taylor Low Tops when they reach $22 or less, and buy High Tops when they reach $24 or less.

If you’re shopping for Converse around the holidays, keep in mind that Nike owns Converse and will likely offer steep savings on clearance items. Last year around mid-December we saw up to 60% savings on Chuck Taylors.

3. Shop TOMS Classics online when they reach at least 50% off.

You can find the best deals on TOMS Classics for kids when you shop TOMS online directly. About once a month, you’ll find select TOMS Classics for kids on sale — buy when you can get them for $20 or less (reg. $41.95).

For women’s and men’s, you can get pairs of TOMS Classics at 6pm.com for 50% off anytime.

4. Grab Adidas and Puma shoes at Kohl’s using Kohl’s Cash.

Not gonna lie — it’s not easy to find a reliable discount on Adidas or Puma. Amazon used to offer half-off discounts, but we haven’t seen that in a few years.

Sometimes there’s a sale at Dick’s Sporting Goods or Finish Line, but those are hit and miss.

So, when it comes to Adidas and Puma, you have to be the boss and create your own discount. One of the best ways to do that is to shop Kohl’s during Kohl’s Cash earning and redeeming periods. You can’t use coupons on Adidas or Puma, but Kohl’s Cash is fair play.

If you’re lucky enough to find a sale you can stack with Kohl’s Cash, you can save up to 50%.

5. Watch Macy’s for 50% off Frye boots in March and August.

Spring and summer are probably the two times of year you’re actually not thinking about buying boots.

But retrain your brain because if you want spendy Frye boots, you’ll need to plan ahead and buy when you see them hit 50% off in March or August at Macy’s.

Otherwise, I recommend hoarding your DSW rewards points and spending them on Frye boots at DSW. This will take more time to accrue rewards, but if you don’t want to wait for a Macy’s sale, it’s the way to go.

Look for clearance boots and apply your $5 DSW rewards to save up to 50%.

6. Buy UGG boots during the holidays or early spring at Rack to save 50%.

You can pretty easily save up to 50% on UGG boots at Nordstrom Rack after Black Friday through mid-December.

But if you miss that sale, check back in February and March, because Rack has been known to offer UGG Flash Events that only last three days, but savings start at 50% off.

Also, watch 6pm for deals on UGG if you’re shopping at other times of the year.

7. Shop for Carter’s baby shoes when they’re 50% off at Carter’s store.

Typically Carter’s isn’t the cheapest place to buy Carter’s-brand clothing.

But this past year, they’ve offered sales on Carter’s shoes that have beat out the competition (OK, maybe except for Kohl’s, which always gives everyone a run for their money).

Look for BOGO Free sales on shoes at Carter’s in March and July, and watch for a 50%-off sale in August.

Otherwise, use Kohl’s Cash to create your own sale on Carter’s baby shoes at Kohl’s.
