What is Kids Skate Free?
The Kids Skate Free (KSF) program is sponsored by the Roller Skating Association International (RSA) and it’s all managed through a platform called Hownd/MyHownd. Basically, it’s a super easy way for families to get their kids involved in some fun physical activity without spending a fortune. Through their sponsorship, RSA aims to make roller skating more accessible to children across the nation and foster healthy lifestyles in a safe environment.
Note, you must be a member of the Kids Skate Free Club in order for your kids to participate in the Kids Skate Free program. You must have an annual membership ($5/year) per child.
Find a participating skating rink near you.

Before you get started, make sure there’s a participating skate center in your area. Use the search feature on the KSF website to either search for a specific center or for participating locations in your state. If you don’t see your local skating venue on the list, reach out to them and let them know about this program. They can get in contact with KSF to join the Kids Skate Free program as an owner.
Here are all the states and locations currently participating in the Kids Skate Free program. If your state isn’t listed, unfortunately, there is not a location participating this year.

Read the rink’s guidelines closely before signing up for Kids Skate Free.

Once you find a location near you, be sure to read the guidelines before taking the time to register. Rinks have age restrictions and also specific hours for skating with passes. Many of the locations allow children aged 12 and younger to participate, while others have more limited age restrictions, such as 6 and under. They also list the days of the week and hours for free skating so you can plan accordingly.
Register and you’ll get two passes per child each week for free skating.
Okay, so you’ve found a participating rink near you? Awesome! Now all that’s left to do is sign up for the Kids Skate Free club and register your kids. There are only a few easy steps to get signed up.
First, go to www.kidsskatefree.com and find a participating rink near you.
Click on the link and enter your information into the form.
Download the MyHownd mobile app (Android) to access your passes. (For iOS users: You can redeem your existing coupons and purchased promos by providing your name at the participating rink’s check-in counter. If you’re new to Kids Skate Free and you just signed up, your first passes will be available on Monday.)
Make sure you sign into MyHownd using the same email you used to sign up for Kids Skate Free. Your passes will arrive within 30 minutes of signing up.
Once signed up and logged in, you’ll find two passes per child in your account every week. The passes are valid for that week only and will expire at the end of the week to be replaced by new passes every Monday.
Bring your own skates for free or pay to rent them.
Summer vacation? Check. Kids Skate Free passes? Check. Skates? Bring them or rent them. Most skate centers will rent four-wheel roller skates or in-line skates to you for about $3 – $4. It should tell you in the skate center’s guidelines, but if you are unsure, just give the center a call directly to ask about skate rental with free skating passes.
