What is Kids Skate Free?

The Kids Skate Free (KSF) program is sponsored by the Roller Skating Association International (RSA) and it’s all managed through a platform called Hownd/MyHownd. Basically, it’s a super easy way for families to get their kids involved in some fun physical activity without spending a fortune. Through their sponsorship, RSA aims to make roller skating more accessible to children across the nation and foster healthy lifestyles in a safe environment.

Note, as of Jan. 2024, you must be a member of the Kids Skate Free Club in order for your kids to participate in the Kids Skate Free program. You must have an annual membership ($4.99/year) per child.

Find a participating skating rink near you.

Before you get started, make sure there’s a participating skate center in your area. Use the search feature on the KSF website to either search for a specific center or for participating locations in your state. If you don’t see your local skating venue on the list, reach out to them and let them know about this program. They can get in contact with KSF to join the Kids Skate Free program as an owner.

Here are all the states and locations currently participating in the Kids Skate Free program. If your state isn’t listed, unfortunately there is not a location participating this year.

Once you find a location near you, be sure to read the guidelines before taking the time to register. Rinks have age restrictions and also specific hours for skating with passes. Many of the locations allow children aged 12 and younger to participate, while others have more limited age restrictions, such as 6 and under. They also list the days of the week and hours for free skating so you can plan accordingly.
