With many stores, restaurant dining rooms, and pretty much every semblance of public life closing due to the coronavirus outbreak, plenty has changed — including our shopping habits.
The Top 20 online-only items the KCL community has been buying like crazy over the past couple of weeks can be categorized into these 6 categories.
1. Disposable household products
It’s no surprise that the top 3 most-purchased items are the ones that sell out the moment new shipments get in: toilet paper (#1), paper towels (#2), and diapers/baby wipes (#3). While online inventory can be as tricky as figuring out when new shipments come in, a number of restocking tools can help.
2. Entertainment while quarantined
So, you’re stuck at home. What to do? KCL shoppers are interested in getting streaming services and the devices that stream them (#6), subscribing to online/at-home workout programs (#8), getting new board games (#14), stocking up on batteries to keep all the various electronics running (#16), and upgrading their video game consoles (#17).
3. Focused on the food
Shoppers are looking for purchases that improve their home kitchens, from new cookware (#9) to food storage containers (#13), to small kitchen appliances (#19). But home chefs need a break, so food delivery subscriptions and gift cards (#18) are also in demand.

4. Solutions to keep the kids busy
Since schools are out for an undetermined amount of time in many places, shoppers are finding ways to keep their kids entertained and educated. The #5 most-purchased item right now is toys, particularly a kitchen playset, a sit-and-stand toy for toddlers, and various other playsets.
Children’s education software is in demand, too (#10), with early-education program ABC Mouse leading the way.
5. Making the house look nicer
If you’re gonna be stuck at home, it might as well look good. People are buying home essentials and decor (#7) like rugs, bath towels, comforters, and heated mattress pads. But keeping the place clean is a big deal, too, with people ordering lots of cleaning products (#15) and vacuums (#20).
6. Making yourself look nicer
Just kidding — you look great. Even though we’re not seeing people as much as usual, shoppers still care about how they look and what they wear. Shoppers are buying Target beauty boxes, lotion, and other beauty and hygiene products (#4) in large amounts. Besides that, deals on shoes (#11) and jackets (#12) are catching on, probably because everybody’s taking those early-spring walks.
