Walmart has live scented mums available right now. So far we’ve seen two scents on the Walmart website and both — pumpkin spice and apple spice — are very fall-forward. The mums come in decorative pots, making them a fair deal for the $28.84 price. You can order unscented live mums as well, but we think you’ll see lower prices on mums if you wait for stores to stock them in their garden centers.

And if you’re obsessed with everything pumpkin spice, your time is coming. We’re already seeing quite a few pumpkin-flavored foods hit store shelves and expect a fall-themed explosion come the first week of September.

The Pumpkin Spice Scented Mums are orange chrysanthemums and can grow up to 16 inches. The scent is similar to the Better Homes & Gardens Pumpkin and Chai candle, if you’re familiar with that fragrance.

Better Homes & Garden’s Apple Spice Mums are a red color and smell like fresh apple and warm, fall spices. These also grow up to 16-inches in size.

Prepare to pay $28.84 for these potted live plants.

We haven’t seen scented mums at any other retailer, so comparing prices is not ideal. However, we compared these to similar plants at Home Depot to see if Walmart’s price is a good deal. Mums are usually sold in 3-quart sizes or gallon-size planters. So, let’s look at the per-quart price to compare.

Walmart’s Pumpkin Spice Scented Mums are $28.84 in a 1-gallon decorative pot. This works out to $7.21 per quart. Home Depot has a 1-gallon mum container (without a decorative pot) for $26.29 or $6.57 per quart. You pay more up-front for the Walmart live mums, but they are scented and come in a decorative pot. So unless you can find a decorative pot for $2.55, the Walmart scented plant is a decent deal.

Order these plants now for a September delivery date. Just in time to swap summer details for fall (and even Halloween decor!). My local Walmart in Pennsylvania doesn’t have them in-store or available for pickup.

However, if you choose mums in a pop-out planter that you can transfer to your own pot, you pay essentially the same price at Home Depot and Walmart — $29.98 and $29.97, respectively. This works out to $4.99 per quart.
