Itโs almost hard to believe, but IKEA has been offering up their modern, minimalist furniture with equally minimal assembly instructions for 80 years as of 2023. To celebrate IKEAโs 80th anniversary, the retailer pushed some modest sales, like 20% off desks (perfectly timed for back-to-school shopping).
If you are one of the first 80 eligible IKEA Family Members to walk through the door of a participating IKEA today, Aug. 25, 2023 (stores open at 10 a.m. local time), you could potentially win a gift from the IKEA 80th Anniversary product collection. The total value for each location is a minimum of $3,000 up to $3,500. That means each gift is worth between $37.50 โ $43.75, assuming the gifts are all the same! You must present your IKEA Family ID. Only one gift per IKEA Family number. Check your local IKEA store page to see if theyโre participating. They are holding this special event if they have something like โHappy 80th Birthday IKEAโ or โIKEA Family Spin-to-Winโ under Store Events. Other terms and conditions apply.
This wasnโt the first giveaway for IKEAโs 80th Anniversary. On Aug. 18, they handed out gift cards to the first 80 IKEA Family members who visited a participating location. Of course the big question: how much were these gift cards worth? Well, IKEA wouldnโt say. The gift cards were issued at random, so likely of varying amounts. But the promotionโs fine print said the total approximate retail value of all gift cards per participating store was $2,500. That means if each gift card was created equally, they amounted to $31.25 each. But, again, IKEA wonโt give a definitive answer. Naturally, other terms and conditions apply.
No word yet on whether IKEA will bring these promotions back for their 81st anniversary in 2024, but weโre keeping our eyes peeled.

Hereโs the scoop on the early IKEA gift card giveaway
ย
In honor of the IKEA 80th Anniversary, the retailer gave away gift cards to the first 80 IKEA Family members who visited a participating store on Aug. 18, 2023.

In order to win one of these gift cards, you had to be an IKEA Family member (itโs free to join). You also needed to be among the first 80 folks in line when your nearest IKEA location opened on Friday, Aug. 18. The first 80 eligible people to walk through their doors on that day could score one of the gift card prizes. As you can see, the number 80 is emphasized with this promotion, because of IKEAโs 80th anniversary. Oh, and you had to make sure a designated IKEA team member spots you in order to win. Now is not the time to lay low.
Itโs important to note that IKEA Planning studios did not participate. Nor did IKEA Plan and Order points.

The value of each IKEA gift card was a โmystery,โ but the total value of all gift cards given away at each store was not to exceed $2500.
We love a freebie, and money is money. However if you won one of these gift cards, it likely wasnโt going to fully pay for your IKEA kitchen remodel. The fine print on the giveaway says that the โtotal approximate retail value of all Gift Cards per participating storeโ was $2,500. Now that can mean a lot of things. Maybe they divvied up the loot equally among all 80 winners and everyone got a clean $31.25. Or, maybe they gave away a $500 gift card to one lucky person and everyone else got about $25. The whole thing is pretty vague, but the mystery of it all is kinda fun.

You had to be at least 18 years of age in most states (19 in Alabama and Nebraska) to win a gift card in this promotion.

If you have a big family and were thinking of dragging your kids along to win extra IKEA 80th Anniversary gift cards, we suggested you nix that idea. You could still drop the kids at Smaland while you shopped, but you had to be at least 18 to be eligible for a prize. Also, there was a limit of one gift card per eligible Ikea Family number. That means if you share a number with your partner, only one of you could use that account to score the gift card.
