If you need some last-minute essentials or want some retail therapy, you might want to know if Dollar General is open on Thanksgiving this year. They are, and here’s what you need to know about all their holiday hours in 2023.

Is Dollar General open on Thanksgiving?
Yes, we expect Dollar General will be open on Thanksgiving this year. Dollar General’s Thanksgiving hours are typically 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. (an hour past the regular closing time of 9 p.m.).
However, stores in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island were not open on Thanksgiving in 2022. This is due to state laws that prohibit businesses from operating on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Additionally, due to staffing shortages, some Dollar General locations closed earlier than others on Thanksgiving Day last year or didn’t open at all. This is because Dollar General has a policy that prohibits any employee from working alone after dark. The policy also allows them to close up shop if they don’t have another team member on duty. Whether staffing issues will pop up again on Thanksgiving this year remains to be seen.
Will Dollar General curbside pickup or delivery be available on Thanksgiving?
We predict Dollar General will again offer curbside pickup and delivery on Thanksgiving. Last year, you could place an order for curbside pickup or delivery via DoorDash. Since it’s a major holiday, waiting times for these services may be longer than usual.
What are Thanksgiving Deal Days at Dollar General?
Starting on Thanksgiving Day and continuing through the Saturday after, Dollar General hosts a three-day event known as Thanksgiving Deal Days. Last year, this in-store-only sale ran from Nov. 24 – 26. Here’s a peek at the holiday savings Dollar General offered last year on Thanksgiving:

- 50% off throws, blankets, and character bedding
- BOGO 50% off Russell Stover or Whitman’s Chocolates

Dollar General Store Christmas Eve Hours
Is Dollar General open on Christmas Eve? Yes. We predict Dollar General will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Curbside pickup and delivery will be available just like last year.
But what about Christmas Day? Sorry — Dollar General generally closes for the holiday, and we expect them to close again this year.

Is Dollar General open New Year’s Eve?
In 2022, Dollar General stayed open on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day for regular shopping hours.
But let’s back up a little bit. Starting the day after Christmas, Dollar General will likely start clearing out seasonal items with a 50% off sales event from Dec. 26 – Jan. 2. Clearance sales generally run throughout January at Dollar General.
Holiday Hours for Dollar General’s Popshelf and DGX Stores
The Dollar General spinoff Popshelf is typically closed on Thanksgiving. In 2022, they operated with limited hours on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
DGX stores usually stay open for regular hours, 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. Like Dollar General, DGX stores had issues with staff shortages in 2022, so their operating hours varied depending on where you shopped.
