There’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint and saving money with a Sherwin-Williams coupon to help make it happen. Whether you’re a homeowner or a renter, adding a new paint color to your walls or a piece of furniture can completely transform a room — and your mood. But don’t let the itch to try something new let you pay full price. With our tips, you can count on saving as much as 40% with trusty Sherwin-Williams coupons and frequent sales.
Even if you can’t find a Sherwin-Williams coupon when it’s time to paint, there’s always a way to save. From the PaintPerks loyalty program to their military discount, I guarantee you’ll never pay full price for a can of paint again.
Before you get out the painter’s tape and the stirring sticks, be sure to download the KCL app so we can start finding you the best deals to save you even more on your DIY projects.
1. Always check for current Sherwin-Williams coupons and sales — they can save you up to 40%.
Sherwin-Williams offers sales at least once a month, with discounts up to 40% off. During the summer, the sales and coupons are even more frequent. I recommend following the Sherwin-Williams Facebook page and Instagram account to keep on top of all the current promotions.
During many of the sales, you don’t need a coupon, as the discounts are automatically applied. (But you can still use a coupon if you have it! See Tip #3.) You can find the deals both online or in stores.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask their employees for a coupon or discount, even if you don’t have one.
The employees at Sherwin-Williams are always so helpful. (I’m talking Ace Hardware level of helpfulness!) Even if you don’t have a Sherwin-Williams coupon, ask if they have any extra promotions going on. My store has promo coupons available every time I don’t have a coupon.
In addition to asking for coupons, I’ll ask my store if they have any paint colors that were returned. It may not be the color I went in looking for, but it may become a newfound love. Plus, these returned paint gallons are usually heavily discounted — like $10 off per gallon. When I said we’re never paying full price again, I meant it.
4. Military members always save 15% at Sherwin-Williams.
If you or your spouse is currently serving, is a reservist, or has served in the military at some point, you’ll save 15% on paints, stains, and painting supplies at Sherwin-Williams. To get your discount, just show your military ID at the time of purchase. Unfortunately, this discount can’t be combined with other offers, percentage-off coupons, promotions, discounts, or any special prices.
5. Buy your paint in bulk (if you’ll use it all) to save $1 per gallon.
If you know you’ll be painting a lot of rooms the same color (hello, Agreeable Gray), you can save in the long run by buying your paint in bulk. Purchasing a 5-gallon bucket instead of a gallon or a quart can save you some money. When we repainted our entire living space, we went with a 5-gallon bucket of paint, and it was the perfect amount. Buying a quart is the most expensive route (it’s the equivalent of paying about $101 for a gallon!), but if you’re testing colors or painting an accent wall, this may be your best option.

6. Use the Sherwin-Williams paint calculator so you don’t buy more than you need.
While it may be nice to have extra paint on hand for touch-ups, no one needs an extra five gallons of paint hanging around. Sherwin-Williams has a handy online paint calculator that’ll calculate the exact amount of paint you need. You can do a quick calculation, custom calculation, and even a deck calculation for both interior and exterior projects.
7. Can you use a Sherwin-Williams coupon at Lowe’s?
You sure can! Sherwin-Williams paint is sold at Lowe’s, which means you can use your Sherwin-Williams coupons at Lowe’s, too. The product line at Lowe’s isn’t as high quality as the paint that you get from Sherwin-Williams directly, but if you’re like me and want to change up your walls often, this tactic will help you stay on budget. You can also check our Lowe’s coupons page to see current promotions.
8. Use your Sherwin-Williams coupon to buy the color of the year.
You can use your newfound Sherwin-Williams coupon- and sale-finding skills to purchase the Color of the Year, which they announce each September. The Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2022 was Evergreen Fog (SW 9130). This color is inspired by a calm forest, with a “cool and soothing gray-green hue,” according to their press release about it. Sherwin-Williams says this is a chameleon color that’ll bring out the tones around your home, like gray, green, or even blue. It pairs beautifully with off-whites, bronzes, beiges, browns, and golds.
Just announced in September 2022 is the Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2023: Redend Point (SW 9081), an earthy, warm beige.
