Tillys is trendy, and that means Tillys is expensive. Luckily, during Tillys Black Friday sales, they tend to mark items way down — typically through a massive percentage off. What does that mean for you? Trendy stuff at more reasonable prices — which is a win-win for Tillys holiday shoppers. Just like other retailers, it’s important you know what to expect going in to help ensure you get the best savings.

For that reason, you’ll want to text BLACKFRIDAY to 57299 to stay on top of the latest Tillys Black Friday deals. But if you miss them, don’t stress too hard. It’s not uncommon to find most of the same sales pop up multiple times throughout the year.

1. Expect the Tillys Black Friday ad to drop on Nov. 15.

A line of people outside of a Tilly's store.

Tillys runs deals starting the week before Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. But they don’t necessarily come out with a circular per se. Instead, you’ll be able to find sale info on Tillys.com. You can also subscribe to their email list to get 20% off your first purchase AND be notified about sales as they go live.

Last year, the deals began the week before Thanksgiving — two Tuesdays before, to be exact. We expect to see the same in 2022, which would mean deals start dropping on Nov. 15, 2022.

Will Tillys be closed on Thanksgiving 2022?

Whether or not your local Tillys will be open on Thanksgiving depends entirely on location. Some locations will be closed, and those that are open tend to have shorter hours on the holiday. Call your local store to check up on their specific policies.

Tillys Black Friday Hours

Most Tillys stores are located within a mall, which means opening hours are highly variable and may depend on mall policy.

Last year, Tillys made Black Friday hours publicly available the Monday before Thanksgiving. But if you call your local store, they may be able to provide you with their specific deets a little earlier.

2. The most consistent Tillys Black Friday deal is early Buy 1 Get 1 50% off.

Sales can vary from year to year at Tillys. But the one that you can count on is the Buy 1 Get 1 50% off sale for early Black Friday shoppers. This sale has always included select items in these categories:

  • Flannels
  • Sweaters
  • Hoodies/sweatshirts
  • Joggers

There are usually a few other product categories thrown in the mix, too. Some examples from years past include:

  • Leggings
  • Pajamas
  • Boots
  • Tees

3. Wait until the day before Thanksgiving for free shipping.

Tillys is always running free or cheap shipping offers. For months leading up to Black Friday 2021, you could get $1 shipping on orders of $59+.

Then on the day before Thanksgiving, the offer changed to free shipping on orders of $49+.

In September of 2022, the free shipping on orders of $49+ is already standard. But if you see shipping prices come back between now and then, expect them to disappear again right before the official holiday.

4. Get around shipping costs with curbside or in-store pickup.

Tillys is still doing curbside and in-store pickup. So if you’re shopping online but are only picking up an item or two — not enough to break the $49 free shipping barrier — you can still dodge shipping costs by driving to the store yourself.

5. Skip the 30% off shoes sale.

Tillys is a sneaker destination. But don’t bother with shoe sales unless you’re getting at least 50% off. Last Black Friday, there was a 30% off shoe sale — but only for select styles.

Tillys regularly offers sneakers 50% – 70% off. So the Black Friday sale isn’t actually the best time to buy.

TIP: While Tillys is known for their sneaker collection, they’re geared more towards skater shoes. If you’re a sneakerhead or are looking to resell shoes, we’ve never seen Air Jordans or Yeezys at Tillys.

6. Comparison shop those deep discounts on trendy brands.

Tillys Black Friday deals are usually percentage based. For trendy brands, the price comparisons might not be as difficult as you think despite the fact that they use this system.

That’s because for a lot of these brands, retailers have the same initial list price, so markdowns are easy to compare without converting into dollars.

For the 2021 sale, Tillys was giving 25% off Hydro Flask water bottles. They’re listed at about $45 everywhere — give or take a few cents.

At the same time, Amazon ran a 30% off sale on the same product with the same list price. That made Amazon’s Black Friday deal slightly better.

The deals tend to be easy to compare, and it’s worth checking the numbers.

TIP: Because Tillys sells such trendy products, it can get pretty pricey. Just because you’re getting a steep discount doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting items “cheap.”

7. Not all sales are offered both in store and online.

The Buy 1 Get 1 50% off deal is available in store and online. But that’s not true for all of Tillys Black Friday sales.

For example, in 2019, you could get a free Android phone with a purchase of $75 or more — but only in store.

In 2020 and 2021, you could get 70% off clearance but only if you were shopping online.

Be sure to read the fine print on all deals because they’re not all offered in all settings.

TIP: Seventy percent off clearance is a great deal, but it’s one Tillys tends to run at different intervals throughout the year. It’s not exclusive to Black Friday.

8. Expect to see ‘free with purchase’ offers.

Getting a free phone is a pretty sweet deal — even if it is an Android.

But it’s not the only free with purchase offer Tillys has ever run. In fact these promos tend to be a feature of their Black Friday sales.

Another example of a past Black Friday promo like this is when Tillys gave you your choice of a free SD card or a free $25 Tillys gift card when you made any GoPro purchase.

9. Be on the lookout for Tillys Cash offers.

A person using a laptop displaying the Tilly's Rewards information page on the Tilly's website.

When you join Tillys Rewards, you’ll earn one point for every dollar you spend all the time. The reward program pays out pretty well — you only need 30 points to collect a $1 reward, which makes them worth almost $0.04 each.

During the holiday season, Tillys Rewards do you even better. Usually starting the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, there are offers that look something like “get $10 in Tillys Cash for every $60 you spend.”

Think of Tillys Cash like Kohl’s Cash. It’s an in-store currency that can only be used after the earning period has ended. In the past, Tillys has offered Tillys Cash on purchases all the way through Christmas Eve.

Then you can redeem all your Tillys Cash during the redemption period, which tends to span the month of January. Check the dates on your Tillys cash to ensure you’re using it within the right time frame.

Because Tillys already gives you one point for every dollar you spend, by the time the redemption period rolls around, you should actually have $12 for every $60 spent, as you’re getting the $10 Tillys Cash plus 60 points for your purchase.

TIP: Tillys has several Tillys Cash periods throughout the year. Based on what we’ve seen from 2022 so far, we predict this year’s Black Friday offer will be $10 in Tillys Cash for every $50 you spend, making the deal even sweeter than last year.

10. Tillys Cyber Monday deals tend to be just as good.

Tillys Cyber Monday deals tend to be just as good. Last year, the 30% off shoes sale and 70% off online clearance extended through Cyber Monday. Plus, there was an up to 50% off sale sitewide.

In 2019, the Buy 1 Get 1 50% off deal was also available on Cyber Monday.

If you miss the sales on Black Friday, you’re still likely to have a few days to take advantage of equally advantageous sale pricing.

11. Tillys holiday return policy is pretty strict.

Tillys return policy is strict. They’ll only accept returns of full-priced items with all tags still intact. That makes returning your Black Friday haul a little problematic.

If you do make a full-price purchase during the holiday season, you may end up just claiming the normal 60-day return period — especially if you’re shopping on Black Friday or later.

But if you’re shopping in the first half of November, you get more than 60 days. You’ll be able to make returns through Jan. 15.

12. Tillys doesn’t price match. Buy at Target instead.

Tillys doesn’t price match. Neither do Amazon or Walmart (especially not on Black Friday.)

But Target does. So if you’d like to consolidate your shopping and Target has all the same products as the ones you’re eyeing at Tillys (or Amazon or Walmart, for that matter), you might as well buy it at Target and claim the price match.

Plus, if you have a Target RedCard, you’ll get an extra 5% off your purchase after the price match.

13. AfterPay is a good service as long as you pay on time.

A person's hand holding up a cell phone displaying the Afterpay app's login screen.

Today, a lot of retailers are offering buy now pay later services. Think of this kind of like layaway, but instead of contributing ahead of time as you would with layaway, you pay off your purchase in installments after purchase.

Some of these services are predatory, charging high-interest rates on your purchase regardless of if you make payments on time.

But the one Tillys uses — AfterPay — won’t charge you anything extra as long as you make your payments on time. You’ll split the total cost of your purchase into four, then make those payments every two weeks until all four installments are paid off.

Be careful to pay your bill on time, though. If you’re more than 10 days late, there will be a late fee that’s $8 or under (depending on your state). If you rack up multiple late fees, the max total late fees will be 25% of the total purchase price of your original order.
