What could be better than Walmart grocery delivery or pickup? The answer is Walmart drone delivery in 30 minutes or less.

After more than 10,000 successful drone deliveries in the last two years, Walmart is taking the next step to grow their services. But don’t get too excited — the service is hardly ready to roll out nationwide. But thanks to a new partnership, tens of thousands more homes will be eligible for drone delivery.

What is Walmart Drone Delivery?

Walmart is using drones, aka small flying robots, to carry and deliver packages of up to 10 pounds. Once you place an order for drone delivery, your Walmart package will arrive at your home, lowered safely by an attached cable — in 30 minutes or less.

The drones Walmart uses can fly beyond a visual line of sight, allowing them to deliver on-demand packages to shoppers in a six-mile range. They’re also flown by certified pilots under FAA guidelines — so don’t worry about your package getting dropped, lost, or damaged along the way.

Right now, Walmart only has this service available at a handful of locations, but they’re continuing to expand their efforts as we speak.

Walmart Drone Delivery is expanding to 60,000 more homes thanks to a partnership with Wing.

Drone delivery is only available at 36 Walmart stores across the country, but they’re on a mission to expand their offerings.

Now, Walmart has partnered with Wing, an on-demand drone delivery service owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet. The goal of this partnership? To expand drone delivery to an added 60,000 homes in the Dallas metro area.

Under their new partnership with Wing, the Walmart Supercenter at 8555 Preston Road in Frisco, Texas will be the first to launch drone delivery. After that, one more store in the Dallas Metro area will launch as well. This is all expected to happen in the coming months.

Once their operations are in full swing, shoppers can download the Wing app ( iOS / Android) to see if their home is within the drone delivery range.

Where is Walmart drone delivery available now?

Walmart currently offers drone delivery at 36 locations across seven states, including Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, Utah, Virginia, and North Carolina. According to them, 4 million shoppers are eligible for drone deliveries at this point in time.

Customers will pay a $3.99 fee for drone delivery — that’s less than the shipping fee for Walmart orders under $35.

If you’re a Walmart Plus member, you’ll get to enjoy drone deliveries for FREE. Yes, seriously. That is unless you’re buying something from a Marketplace seller on Walmart.com. In that case, additional fees may apply.

For everyone else, drone deliveries will come with a $3.99 drop-off fee. But even that’s cheaper than some of the other fees Walmart charges. For example, the $5.99 shipping fee on orders under $35, or the $6.99 fee for refrigerated pickup orders under $35.

You’ll be able to order tons of items through Walmart drone delivery — even frozen foods.

According to Walmart, shoppers can order everything from household essentials to frozen treats and even fragile items like eggs via drone delivery.

As long as your total order stays under 10 pounds, it’s a go for drone delivery.

Here are some other items you can get delivered via drone:

  • Tylenol
  • Ice cream
  • Spaghetti
  • Red Bull
  • Paper Towels
  • Rotisserie Chicken
  • Lemons
