Here are some tips to make your tan look better and last longer that won’t cost you a thing!
This step is very important! If you have any rough or dirty areas on your body, the sunless tanner is not going to go on evenly. To make sure you have a smooth surface you will need to clean, shave and use a loofah and/or body scrub to exfoliate your entire body and remove dead skin.
There are a few places that require a bit of extra help. Lather your knees, ankles, and elbows in a moisturizing lotion prior to applying sunless tanner to ensure problem areas are ready.
Prevent those horrific orange palms by throwing on a pair of plastic gloves prior to applying the sunless tanner. After you have applied your tanner to your body, take off the gloves and apply a small amount to the back of your hands. Immediately wash your palms to prevent orange palms.
Cream or Gel: Rub onto your body in a circular motion, focusing on one part of your body at a time. Remember to take your time and not to apply to much to your elbows, ankles, or knees.
Spray: Spray yourself all over as evenly as possible, then rub it in lightly to prevent speckles.
Some sunless tanners take only a few minutes while others take up to an hour to dry. Follow the directions and try to sit in front of a fan for as long as possible. (What busy mom doesn’t have all day to sit around stark-naked in front of a fan, right?) When your air dry is interrupted by your toddler’s screams, your kitchen timer or the UPS man, make sure you don’t throw on your favorite shirt! If you do get a stain from the sunless tanner, peroxide (3% or less) to remove the stain. Always test the peroxide in an inconspicuous area of the garment to ensure no chemical reaction with fabric.
