If there’s one thing that I love in life it’s shopping for new clothes! I especially love spoiling myself with top brands such as Theory, J.Crew and Anthropologie. Unfortunately, finding designer items that fall within my budget definitely isn’t easy. Up until now I’ve always scavenged the outlet stores and searched eBay in my spare time, but I recently discovered a better way to save on designer merchandise—ThredUp! Not only is ThredUp a great place to score as much as 80% off retail prices, but it’s also a great place to make a little extra cash by selling the items in your closet that you no longer wear!

What is ThredUp?

ThredUp is an online consignment store that buys and sells women’s and children’s clothing. ThredUp offers a myriad of brands including J.Crew, Gap, Banana Republic, Tea Collection, Hanna Anderson, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade and tons more! If you’re worried about purchasing gently-used clothing online there’s no need! ThredUp inspects all merchandise and only accepts items in new or like-new condition so you know that every item you buy will be a quality piece.

How much can I save?

Although prices vary from item to item, you’ll often find merchandise listed as high as 80% off of the original retail price! Last time I checked out the site, I found an adorable pair of pink Nike kicks normally $60.00 priced at $16.49, a $45.00 Ann Taylor blouse for $8.49, and even $189 Seven for all Mankind jeans for $34.99! One of the nice features to ThredUp is that you can search by your favorite brand, by price or by category!

How do I sell items?

Once you’ve logged on to ThredUp.com, start selling by ordering a ThredUp Clean Out Bag. Next, fill up the bag with like-new women’s and children’s clothing as well as women’s shoes and handbags. Each bag comes with a prepaid, pre-addressed, shipping label, and you can drop your bag off at any USPS carrier or your local FedEx Kinko's. Once your bag arrives, their fashion professionals will inspect the items and pay you up to 40% of the retail value! Sellers are also given a consignment option on items that will be listed at $40 or more, which offers a higher payout if the items sell. Payments are made via Paypal or you can choose a ThredUp credit and score yourself some new goodies!

How much can I make?

Although you won’t know for sure how much you’ll be paid for your items until they arrive at ThredUp, the site offers a helpful “Clothing Calculator” to give you an idea of your payout. Simply choose the item such as shoes, tops or dresses and input the brand. The calculator will give you an estimated payout amount as well as alert you to whether or not this is an in-demand item or one that you may receive a low payout for.

How do I get started?
